Only an artist of Jay-Zs stature could have survived the indignity of In My Lifetime Vol. 1 - his stunningly poor second LP - and remain standing as one of the premier lyricists of his generation. Like Biggie did on Life After Death Jay-Z diversifies his style here with the Timbaland laced Nigga What, Nigga Who and the dialogue Coming of Age which revisits the young hustler from Jay-Zs first LP, Reasonable Doubt demonstrating that even when experimenting with flow he can still crush his peers. Now...for my viewpoint...In My Lifetime Vol. 1 was AWESOME, it was the first of the new collection of music that would solidify Jay-Zs transformation from Straight Hood to Gully Gracefulness - Jay gave Hip Hop a dose of fabulous stylistic classiness with overtones reflecting the nature of a former street hustler who parlayed his talent to corporate America. Vol. 2 just kicked it up a notch and the avalanche of hits just continues from there! Let us not forget about Reasonable Doubt which is a CLASSIC. Mr. Caramanicas statement that Vol. 1 was stunningly poor only reflects how little he knows about Jays music. I am gonna get a hold of Vol. 1 and share it with you all so you can see for yourself what I am talking about.
