Def Jam president Jay-Z will make an appearance with United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan and MTV president Christina Norman Wednesday (Aug. 9) to announce a joint venture aimed at getting young people involved in addressing global issues.

The retired rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, appears in a new documentary where he witnesses first hand the human impact of the world’s water crisis.

More than one billion people around the world lack access to safe drinking water, according to recent statistics. Also, water-related diseases are the leading cause of death in the world and responsible for 80% of all sickness in the world. A U.N. study revealed that two in three people, more than 2.7 billion people, will face water shortages by 2025 at the current rate of consumption.

A premiere date for the documentary and other related initiatives will be announced at Wednesday’s press conference, scheduled to take place at the United Nations.

I've heard "retired rapper" to describe Jay Z for months now... when will he (finally) retire?
