I was just reading on another hip hop forum a thread about J. Dilla's best tracks and it mentioned 2pac - Do For Love.

Did he produce the OG of the song? Or did he produce the remix on RUSD? (I dont have the RUSD booklet handy right now).

If Dilla and Pac did connect ever, I'm surprised it isnt more frequently mentioned.

My booklet says, Produced & Arranged by Soulshock & Karlin for SoulPower Productions.

Hmm...

The thread in which I found this seemed to be written by someone who was something of an authority on J. Dilla...

Anyone know who produced the OG of Do For Love, and if it was Dilla?

I already replied in a same thread on MrMakaveli.net

J Dilla didn't produce the OG or the remix.
He made a beat and produced for The Pharcyde "Y?"
The beat was used in the retail version of Do For Love but he wasn't credited.

here is what I posted on MrMakaveli.net:

a dutch interview of JayDee where he says:
Weet je wat ook een goed voorbeeld is? Check ‘Y?’ van the Pharcyde en luister dan naar ’Do for Love’ van Tupac die geproduceerd is door weet ik veel (Soulshock & Karlin-red). Die gast heeft praktisch mijn plaat geknipt en er een wereldhit mee gescoord! Dat was mijn fucking beat!

I assume "Dat was mijn fucking beat!" means "That was my fucking beat!"

here is "Y?" by The Pharcyde (produced by J Dilla) as said in the interview, it was used in "Do For Love"
