Technology Is 11Mbps fast?

I am checking out several wireless cards, and I've found one that's pretty inexpensive. However, it is 11Mbps. I am not sure if that's fast, because I've heard of cards with 108Mbps.

If there are cards with 108Mbps, I am assuming it beats the 11Mbps card by a mile.

I don't want to buy something that's slow.

Anyone know?

Maybe you’re talking about an IEEE 802 LANMAN Standard Committee that does not exist?

The thing is that 802.11b is the standard and 11g is based on B. My experience is they always operate at B speeds because 802.11b is currently used in most hot spots including airports, hotels, campuses, and public areas.

I’ve seen 108 Mbps cards like you have seen them but don’t buy into the hype. All they are are souped up 11g cards. It will not transfer data at that speed. The benchmarks that I've seen transfer just above 11mbs at best. The problem with 802.11g and 11b is that they operate in the 2.4 GHz range making it highly susceptible to signal interference from other 2.4 GHz devices such as cordless phones, microwave ovens and have a high number of packet retries because of signal noise this is why they will not operate at 108.

I guarantee the 11g turbo cards do not operate at 108Mbps. They will only operate between 54 and 11mbps at home. and 11mbps in public. Oh yeah and typically cable modem service never ranges above 5mbps 11mbps is plenty fast enough.

Depends, if your gonna be sharing files over the network 11MBps is pretty slow.
If you're just sharin the Net then its fine.

anything that says more than 11mbps is a ripoff. like dude said,they are just souped up, but not really that much better. they just hype shit up to make more money.
