Yup insomniac right here, i've gotten about 4 hours sleep since saturday and all up about 7 since the saturday before that.
Well here's what people tell me that should work (i'll explain the reason for my bad sleeping later on in this thread so you don't have to read it if u can't be fucked)
Try these (they don't work for me):
Excersise before you sleep
Read before you sleep
go for a walk
sleep somewhere different, go lie on the couch or something
Turn off your computer and anything else that will make noise or distract you.
Go have a shower
have some pasta
Have some warm milk
Try and stay awake (no shit)
Turn the TV off (if your TV is on usually)
Turn the TV on and have it running in the background (if it's off usally)
Don't smoke, eat any sugar or drink coffee or tea
(the list goes on)
Don't try sleeping tablets it's the worst thing you can ever do. Despite my terrible sleeping i will never go to them. You'll just get very moody/snappy, your body is just fucked, your physically drained (this is after you wake up)... everything is fucked. Never try sleeping tablets. Plus your body can become dependent on them.
Now, apparently there are a few reasons for my insomnia. Befor i give these reasons i'll just give which brain waves associate with what during the day and when u sleep.
Beta Waves - day dreaming etc
Alpha waves - mediations
The 2 stages above are the first stages of sleep as well. then we have
Theta waves - Half asleep (the stage u go to before you actually fall asleep)
Delta waves- deep sleep, where REM occurs
REM - deep deep deep sleep, happens ony during delta waves
Apparently my brain functions normally for the first 2 stages but i'm missing some of the other waves, it's as if my brain doesn't fall into those cycles (or it does, but not properly or for long enough). But i fall into REM sleep pretty quickly which makes me feel refreshed after an hour or so of sleeping (it generally takes a normal person 90 minutes to get to REM). The reason i have trouble actually falling asleep is because my brain wave patterns aren't quite right so i just can't fall asleep, but when i do it's short lived. Every now and then i might get a few hours sleep (like a normal person 6-8 hours) but generally speaking, it doesn't happen that often. I have actually slept for 22-24 hours straight once and that was after over 6 days of NO sleep what so ever (not even being able to close my eyes).
Now the funniest thing is, the less i sleep the quicker i fall into my cycles which means the less i sleep, the less sleep i need to feel refreshed. So on a busy week i suddenly get about 4-5 hours sleep without ever being that tired.
When i went to a sleeping clinic they played all this different music and different sounds to see what gets my brain wave activity happening and apparenlty not many sounds had any effect. But i do seem able to take quick power naps in bus's. I often get a bit fucked up from 4-6 in the afternoons but after that i have a new boost of energy in me. i try and nap from 4-6 but it's barely every happened simply because i get busy
I think that's the gist of it all. I'm not quite 100% on what the doctors were telling me but that's pretty much all i gathered. It can be annoying at times (like right now i'm feeling pretty tired but i can't sleep, might try again soon) but it gives me time to do many other things.
