If I go to Montreal do I need French?

People in Quebec aren't French you idiot, they are CANADIAN.

How about a geography lesson.
FRANCE, CANADA, two entirely different countries on the opposite sides of the world.

back on topic. Now it depends on which city you visit. Almost all Quebers speak English as a second language, though it is more convenient to know French as well.

As long as you can say, 'Je ne parle pas français.' My friend said people do understand English in Montreal, but prefer to speak French. There might also be a problem where few people would choose to ignore you.

I think u should work on your english first. :thumb:

How ironic.

Anyway, the sentence(s) I provided have no grammatical errors in them, the reason you may believe I have a less than perfect grasp of the English language is because of the laxidazical way I presented them, this however is due to the forum and circumstances in which I currently operate. In essence, your assumption that I need to work on my English is an inherent falsehood. View my posts in WoW for more information.

With that out of the way back to the question at hand, if I was to venture to the esteemed city of Montreal, would I need a grasp of the French language (langue francais) or is it applicable to solely speak English?

i went there for the weekend a while back... i only speak very little french but i didnt need to use any of it while i was there... most people spoke english (or understood bits of it) for me to get by as a tourist..

its a great city.. you should have fun :thumb:

I know I'm not exactly an expert in english, but yours was a conditional sentence, and I learned there are 4 kinds of them: Zero, First, Second and Third.

You used Type Zero in you sentence (with both verbes in present simple), but I'm not sure if you can use it in that case. Zero conditional is used to talk about things which are always true (like scientific facts), ex: Water boils is you heat it to 100 degrees.

From what I've studied First Conditional'd be more appropiate 'cause it's used to talk about tihngs that may happen in the future. Ex: "If I go to Montreal, will I need French?

No need to reply saying I know nothing about english... I'm not being serious :)

I can.

I'm not three years of age. (BTW that sentence is filled with errors) ;)

You're from Argentina and have admitted you can't even comprehend the spoken language as it's been so long since you last heard a proper converstation conducted in English, STFU.

No need to reply saying I know nothing about english... I'm not being serious :)

Needless to say, I'm kidding :)

you only need french if you plan on traveling outside of the city

i speak english, french and spanish, and i only use french outside of the city, i get around on english and spanish in the city just fine
