"I mean, the bartender got $100 for keeping the ice cubes cold."

if I didn't live in a city where the 15% was obliged, I would be quite a prick when it comes to tipping.

Mother fuckers better have gotten my ice directly from the north pole while fighting off pinguins to get a tip

I guess you've never been a server. Anyone that says "all they have to do is write down an order and take it to the bar or kitchen" doesn't know what he's talking about. :)

I have, and even at 17 i decided it was unskilled and below me. That may come across as arrogant but i'm glad i made that choice. Let's not drum up there job to be something it isn't, if you think it's a skilled job, you're obviously not in a skilled job. :)

I never mentioned skill. You should be aware that being a server invloves a lot of HARD WORK, you can't take that away from them.. they do work hard, especially when it comes to dealing with assholes who think that waiters are their slaves. Look at the comments posted in that site.. people are assholes, they probably have a notion similar to yours. A lot of servers are paid minium wage so, im my opinion, tips are part of salary that they deserve.

I'm certainly not an asshole with them, i just have no respect for people who work in unskilled jobs and expect to be paid well for it, anyone can do it, which is why it pays so low. Woop de doo, they may have to work hard serving food (guffaw) but if you've ever had a proper job i.e. a career you have to work hard for your future progression, not just because you're hungover from the night before, only half way through a 9 hour shift and want to get home so you can start the cycle all over again. It's a fact of life that you're expected to work hard in your job as the absolute minimum, you certainly don't/shouldn't get bonuses for it.

Oh yeah, and if they dislike being "treated like slaves" (as you put it), DON'T get a job where the primary task is TAKING ORDERS. It's not hard, is it?

I'm done with this topic, i think everyone knows my feeling on it.

If i ever tip for a meal it's cos i know the waiter/waitress (or she's hot) or i tip the chef directly with a drink or £££, after all he's the one that cooked the food and if the foods shit then you wouldn't be tipping anyone anyway.

OK.

i just have no respect for people who work in unskilled jobs and expect to be paid well for it,

I respect people who work hard at what they do, no matter what that job is, and I tip them well to show my respect and appreciation.

My sister is a server and she goes to school full time while working 25 hours a week to pay her rent, food, book, transportation, etc. She serves people like you.

Look, I consider tips to be like commission. It's part of the pay.

That's stupid. NOBODY has the right to treat anyone like salves.. their job is to serve, NOT get treated like shit. Is it hard to show a little gratitude?

Here is an advice, you don't like to tip? Don't eat out... that's the same logic, isn't it?
