so here's my story...

it all started on thursday afternoon (august 25th). we (university of miami students) were preparing for hurricane katrina. i had not been feeling good all day but i thought i just had a stomach ache or something. i went to my last class and then went to my friend's house for dinner, to try and ride out the hurricane. the hurricane (then a category 1-2) hit harder than expected and the eye passed right over us. he lost power at his house so i called a friend at the dorms who told me that they had emergency generators and still had lights and air conditioning. so we decided that after the storm wound down a little bit that we would go back to the dorms for the night. we got back and i felt fine. i decided to heat up a pizza and then go to bed at around 2:30 A.M.

then, out of nowhere, i woke up out of a sound sleep at around 3:15 with unbearable abdominal pains. i went to the bathroom to see if maybe i just had to go but i couldn't. the pains kept coming and got more and more strong. i would have gone to the on campus health center but everything was closed down because of the hurricane. so i woke up my roommate and told him that i needed to get to the hospital and that i needed him to give me a ride. so eventually we walked over to his car...which proceeded not to start! i was doubled over in pain by this time and i told him, look...i can't call a cab, i don't feel like paying the outrageous bill for an ambulance, so i told him that i would walk. the hospital was only 1.5 miles away so i treked over there in now tropical storm conditions and checked myself into the emergency room.

they did all these tests on me (ultrasound, ekg, blood tests, etc.) and found out that my gall bladder was inflamed and needed to come out. i had all these gall stones in there and i passed one earlier, and that was the pain that i was feeling. they wanted to do surgery the same day but the problem was that the hurricane knocked the power out. the hospital still had emergency power for some things, but that was it. i had to wait 3 days for the power to get back to normal and then i had my surgery. in the mean time, it was like 120 degrees in my room, which was very uncomfortable and i had no t.v. :(. the day before my surgery they did an mri to see if any new stones had blocked the bile duct and also a nuclear test of some sort. eventually, i had the surgery and now i'm feeling better. i'm a little sore, but they gave me pain pills so it's bearable.

so that's my story.

yo, did your roommate at least walk with you to the hospital, just in case you collapsed or some shit? if not, that's cold.

yah, he walked over with me and made sure i was situated and everything

lol, you're right that would have been horrible if he left me! he had to help me stay upright along the way.

^^^thanks for the kind words everyone...i hope to be back to 100% in a week or so.

That's no good cardella. Good to know you are ok though. If it had have been me, I'd have woken up everyone in the dorm, trying to find someone with a car. Stuff walking, lol. That's crazy.

Believe it or not, i just did a gallbladder/liver cleanse 2 days ago and it actually rids your system of gallstones. Everyone has them but they are never noticed until pain is felt as a result of too many of them. The cleanse consisted of drinking quite a bit of olive oil, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, and apple juice. I was skeptical of it at first but it actually worked! So yea, you should look into doing the same thing to help speed your recovery.
