How come every time I see a commercial for a new movie coming out on DVD, they always say it's tha unrated version. How come all these movies are coming in unrated versions now ?

MONEY. you weren't able to see it in the theater, so they hope you buy it to see the new stuff. with the advent of special edition DVDs, they intenionally make stuff to take out and hold over for DVDs.

Actually...
A film gets edit and shrunk down so much that the director usually doesn't get out as much of his vision as he or she would like.therefore you have cut scences and extra stuff they couldn't put in the film.Thats what makes it uncut and special.also films have to meet rating standerds,so when it says unrated it means the stuff wasnt approved by the rating film comittee that was extra to the dvd.

that's what used to be the reason, and that sometimes is the case now. however, now (most of the time), studios and distributors know that consumers eat this stuff up, so they deliberately shoot stuff to "remove" from the movie, so they can reenter it on the dvd.
