I have a 2002 Honda Civic DX with about 63,000 miles on it. I've never had an issue with it except for having to change the brakepads and turn the rotors last year. For the last few months, I have been hearing a very annoying rattling/screeching noise whenever my foot is on the brake and I'm on an incline, even a slight one.
So, I brought it to the Dealer (because other shops couldn't figure out what it was) and they told me that they located the problem.
Now, I don't know shit about cars but this is what I was told: There is a pipe inside of the exhaust pipe that has come lose and it's banging around in there and causing the irritating noise. He said there's no real problem with the car at all. He said that the only way to fix it is to replace the entire exhaust pipe which would be $190.00 plus about an hour or so of labor so I'm looking at $260.00 total for the job.
Does this make sense? And, if so, does the solution/price sound appropriate?
I'm thinking of bringing my car somewhere else to have them look at it.
