yeah it's because the algorithm used traces color differences on your face - contrast between skin on your cheeks/forehead and eyes/lips. That's how it determines that you pretty much have a face.
It also won't work if you have one eye, stretched face or whatever other bigger face deformation.

It's just stupid and totally amateuristic that HP didn't manage to make it work properly, though. The deformity thing, you can make a case for that but the blackness is just fail.

^ yeah it's a big fail from HP. Apparently some programmer didn't think (and they didn't hire black testers either).
That's probably because the software was being developed in a country that is not inhabited by a significant amount of black people.
