I don't know if any of you out there have Dogs, or even live near people who have them. But, has anyone ever noticed that when there is sirens going off nearby, say on a main road, that the Dogs start howling in unison with the siren? It sure is weird, they sound like a possessed pack of wolves singing to a full moon.

the reason a dog howls at a siren is, not becasue of the siren, but becasue of the way in which the air enters the dogs ear due to the sound of the siren. When another dog howls then the way in which the air enters into the dos ear is the same as the police of fire engine sirens. so actually what the dog thinks is that there is another dog howling. and mostly a dog will howl back in a defence of his territory, or it may be that that particular movement in the air may sound like a bitch.
all in all, dogs can sense frequencys which we can't, this is aided by the sensing movement of air created by sounds. hard for us to fathom
