Non-Urban Music House/Electro 101

So i thought i'd give everyone that likes a diverse range of music a quick tour of house music and what it's about.

The greatest problem with house (whether it's progressive, minimal, chicago or electro house)is that it's beginning to suffer by becoming commercial so i thought i'd recommend songs to people that they may have heard hear and there but haven;t fallen victim of the radio stations.

Some of these songs you might have a hard time finding. But there are the top tracks of 2006 in my opinion.

If you focus on the production of these songs, and how they were made, you'll get a greater understanding of music in general since house music is influenced by alot of other genres and unlike Trance and other types of dance music it evolves.

In 2000 when the whole trance scene was dying because it wasn't really going anywhere house was beginning to make it's break through. Till 2004 it wasn;t really going anywhere. 2004-2005 we saw ALOT of remixed 80's songs like Midas Touch and Out of Touch. But soon Dj's found something that could get your body rocking. Elektro kicked in and music was being created again. Some Dj's moved onto breaks and breaks dj's generally moved on to Drum n Bass for that harder feeling music. Both genres exploded amongst their own niche. Both Breaks and Drum N Bass are up there with my other favourite genres. They provide something different in a commercially driven music industry.

As for house though, it fell a big victim of commercialisation and so alot of people were turned off. So fatter bass lines and dirtier electro made it's breakthrough to get away from the radio waves (though even that is beginning to attract a massive fan base thus beginning to get it's fair bit of airplay).

Anyway so here are some top tunes that you might want to get a hold of if you can.

Ame - Rej (the Original doesn't have a beat but the production of this song is 2nd to none)
Bookashade - In White Rooms
Dave Spoon - At Night
I Am Finn - I Love You (Van She Tech Remix) <- Probably one of my favourite tunes of 2006.
The Knife - Like A Pen
The Knife - We Share Our Mothers Health (Trentemoller Remix)
Tonite Only - Where The Party's At
Pryda - Shadows (Claes Rosen Remix)
Justice - Waters of Nazareth

For something a little more Breaksy for you hiphop heads
Ferry Corsten - Junk (feat Guru from gangstarr)

if there are any particular tracks you like drop them in here.
If there are any particular songs that your interested in hearing. Like more songs that sound like another particular song. Let me know.

I hope some of you can open your minds to this genre as well as many others like Punk, Trip Hop, Electronica, Jazz, Psy-Trance (the only trance that isn't dead), New Rock/metal, Alternative Rock etc. What i notice with this forum in particular is that only few members have opened their doors to other genres other than hiphop. And alot of DJ's that i encounter only open their doors to house or one sub genre of that. So experiment is what i say... start listening to other genres and start getting insight into the genre.

Field Day is the equivalent to the event.
Ours is called Summadayze but it's a similar event.
Melbournes is organised by Future entertainment, and Sydney's is most likely orgainsed by Fuzzy.

You guys have Sanchez and Derrick Carter. We don't ge them till the weekend

You should go. I'm pretty sure you'll find tickets at the door by scalpers. Or ebay always has tickets.

my mate says he might be gettin some tickets so yea i might end up going

yeah trust me it'll be all worth it.

I have some pick me ups to get me through the next day so i should be alright.
A mate of mine has an ounce of coke, half an ounce of speed and 50 pills put aside just for the event. Funny thing is this guy went to Tibet to clean up... and came back a fucking monk... but didn't take long for him to go back to it all.

Should be rockin!

What's wrong with house going commercial? It means more people will get to enjoy it.

Your thread is commercializing house by exposing it to more people. Am I wrong, or is there some other definition of commercialization that you go by?

Solveig wasn't that good actually. He was ok.... but he was pretty fucking commercial. Half the crowd left when he played Bob Sinclare - Rock This Party. He barely went into any tribal house as he usually does

Trentemoller delivered as i expected. He's so different it's great.

COBURN was AMAZING. he did some cool break beat stuff

But the best acts of the day are easily...
Emerson (i think i came a little half way through his set)
Axwell (all i have to say is OH MY GOD... 25000 people at the mainstage... just unbelievable. I have a video of Axwell playing Buy Now- For Sale

Mylo was rocking and so was Tocadisco

The big BIG BIG disappointments were
Basement Jaxxx (absolutely TERRIBLE)
Bob Sinclare (It was just horrid. Everyone just left)

NOBODY will have this right now except probably 2 people. Me and the guy who recorded his set (who i can kiss right now)

I have emersons set as well, but i can't be fucked uploading tonight

THIS IS HOUSE...
Axwell @ SummaDayze 07

On a side note, Axwell has said that he has never ever had a better set in his entire life than he did at summadayze. He said the vibe was just overwhelming.

He's also mentioned something in his forums about Melbourne Summadayze being his best and favourite set.

Sorry to bypass your question. I was a bit too excited about summerdayze.
Anyway there's nothing wrong with a song going commercial but the problem rises when producers and DJ's stop making music and experimenting with music and start following the same forumula to make a commercial track. Because lets face it, all DJ's want to make money. So say bob sinclare, in 1999 -2000 he was about the music making some cool sounding break beat music that was just off the tap. Everyone dug his music, but then he started slowly making commercial music and lost focus of where it's heading. He put all his efforts on things like 'love generation' and 'world hold on' which if u listen to it has no creative touch about them... pretty melodys with pretty vocals that lack originality and substance. So all the teen girls start listening to the genre and every other dj starts targeting that market causing music lovers and DJ's to go beneath the scnene to find music. Only problem is when a DJ starts playing a set, if he plays good music (non-commercial house that has substance like waters of nazareth by Justice) the girls start bitching and whining because they can't sing along to it etc, forcing alot of DJ's to play commercial radio music. So a DJ with great music taste and talent can't get gigs because he doesn't play Chris Lake - Changes or Supermode - Why.

When internationals come down the bitches can't complain because they look stupid so they just go along with it. The spencer parkers and sharam jeys play great music that has the crowd rocking, and if the bitches complain they get looked upon as if they're crazy. I don't know how to explain this... but commercialisation of music attracts not music lovers but sheep.

Think about hiphop. alot of people listen to artist like 50 cent and chingy and fabulous and all that other bullshit which lacks substance, originality and creativity. They go by what's cool.... gangsta rap is cool so lets talk about gangsta shit. Artist like Ja Rule and DMX did the same thing and instanly sold out. They sell millions of albums and ultimately fall because sheep follow the crowd, and once the crowd starts finding another commercial artist everybody else follows.
Artists like Outkast and Roots and Jurassic 5 however remain true to the music and the genre. They bring originality and musical talent, yes some of their songs hit the commercial scene but they have a heavy fan base not because it's the cool thing to listen to but because they grab influences from a variety of genres and make their own sound.

I hope this makes sense and i'm not sounding like a complete fuckwit

Anyway Rant Over.

Here are a few more sets from summadayze
Basement Jaxx
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C65YYJ9I

TV Rock
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VL51HI3F
