On wednesday night i got into a little scuffle with some guy who pulled a knife on me and ended up slashing my stomach. It didn't cut deep at all but according to so many people that know the guy, the knife was dirty and may have contained the HIV virus.

Though i went for an HIV test yesterday there was really no point since the virus can take up to 3 months to develop. So i've got a booking with my doctor to do another test in 3 months time as well.
First lot of results should come back beginning of the week after this one coming.

I was wondering has anybody ever done an HIV test, and were they shit scared for the results?
I don't think i've been so terrified in my life
 
usually they offer a strong cocktail of antibodies and immune system boosters to people who catch a possible exposure. rather surprised they didn't take this precaution.

unless there was wet biocontamination on the knife, infection is unlikely. even hiv cannot remain alive on a dry surface. unless the knife made contact with infected blood and was not cleaned or otherwised dried, you're ok.
 
I'm sorry to hear about this. Yes, I've had an HIV test, but just out of routine because I'm a hypochondriac (literally). As Dante said, its surprising they didn't offer to cocktail, but the cocktail generally is only effective in the first 48 hours. I'm sorry that that happened, but as Peter said, given the circumstances you should be fine. If it makes you feel relaxed somewhat, get a test done in a month. HIV can show up as early as 1 month and as late as 6 months. 3 months is average.
 
You'll be ok hopefully, which Im sure it will be. But how exactly do you Salar get into a scuffle? You seem so genuine and mellow, the type of person that just wants to have fun and not problems. Anyways keep your head up and don't be getting involved in those scuffles!. Walk the other way.

i'm not gonna repeat what dante and big e said so all i can say is i hope you gonna be okay. but i dont think that you got hiv anyways.

now the question is what happened to peaceful party dude salar to be in a scuffle?
 
you live an interesting live salar. getting in knife fights, rolling around with your skate shoes (which makes me wonder why you didnt skate away from the attacker), and going to parties with people having sex in front of everyone while playing xbox.

but seriously i hope the tests come back negative
 
Unless the instrument used against you to cause trauma came in direct contact with the HIV virus , you will not get the virus. However, it is possible the weapon had previously been used to attack somebody with HIV/AIDS and/or accidentally cut somebody with HIV/AIDS and if the virus had not died yet before being used against you, then you're at risk. You can not get infected with one tiny spec of HIV infected blood, but it really all depends on the viral load. The virus can not sustain its self when it dries out, and it eventually ceases to exist and is in turn rendered harmless.

There is one point I should make, you might get the results back and get a HIV positive test.. but that does not necessarily mean you were infected from the knife. So I would advise you, to get a test now anyway to be able to have a record of source of transmission. I have taken the test before, and will continue to do so every 3 to 6 months as a general precaution and safety measure. Yes indeed it brings out extreme anxiety and restlessness... but if you're infected, you're infected... No point in stressing during the waiting period. I too am surprised why they did not put you on the cocktail however, perhaps your physician deemed it unnecessary.

I got poked with a needle once and it was suspected that it was infected with hepatitis c and I was put on antibiotics for a month. All tests came back negative but yes it was the scariest time ever.

I also get an aids test every year...sometimes twice a year.
BUT I do know someone (not personally) who had unprotected sex with an hiv infected partner for 8 months and did not contract the virus.
I do wonder why he would carry around a knife that was suspected to have the virus on it...he would also be putting himself at risk

I was thinking that too, but someone I knew got an aids test and told me you had to disclose it... So I thought I'd google, and I found a bit of info. Dunno how true it is, or to which countries it relates.

Unless you have an anonymous test the fact you've had it is in your medical records. And there are lots of times that you give written permission for people to look through your medical notes. For instance when applying for certain jobs, Usually the good 1's. When applying for Insurance and credit. Sometimes the fact you've taken a test can go against you. If you have a test or two a year as some people have said in this thread, then it is gonna look suspicious. Just something to bare in mind when people have an AIDS test. Although in Salar's case I can understand why he needs the piece of mind.
