the film was alright. i guess it's matter of taste when it comes to the humor and the story, some people would appreciate it for what it is and others would not get it/find it stupid/think that the book is a lot better. the hype surrounding the movie was due to the book and it's propularity.. although i didn't think the movie was hyped up.

never let the 'hype' blind you. it's important to watch a film with an open mind and without any expectations. that goes for pretty much anything, like music for example.

on another note, i've been noticing that my taste in film is a bit different compared to my friends. maybe it's them but they like the most shittiest movies but they would walk out of the theater during a good movie. not enought patients? do they not think? maybe they don't want to think.

Didn't read the book but since I couldn't get my hands on it without ordering it first I went ahead and watched the movie. I could see that the book was pretty damn funny but the movie was so-so.
I didn't really laugh out loud once.

Not sure if I remember correctly but didn't the book start with something about God? Only read that but it was hilarious.

i bet studios do 'trick' people to go see a film by doing things like taking the best 2 minutes out of the film and using that as a trailer but i don't think this movie was 'hyped up' in the media, i don't remember that many coverage/advertising of this film. according to imdb.com, the estimated budget for this film was $50 mil which is not that much when it comes to hollywood films. in comparison, War of the Worlds was a 'hyped up' movie (of course) with an estimated budget of $132 mil.

The movie was alright. I had not read the books, but understood the concept. It was a decent movie, but nothing hillarious. The one thing that actually made me laugh hard were how the doors had anxiety and they sighed when opened and closed.

The book was first done by the BBC in the 82, and it was much better than the new movie. Very faithful to the book and it's out on DVD with hilarious outtakes added. I recommend ppl pick it up.

I can't remember if I read the books before or after I saw the BBC2 TV show. The TV show was great.

I need to get the TV show on DVD, and the original radio show on CD.
