The fifth World Hip-Hop Dance Championship will take place in LA from July 27-30, as top dancers from 25 different countries come together to compete for their home land.
Dance crew’s are categorized into three groups: Juniors (ages 7–12), Varsity (ages 12-17), and Adult (18+) which will consist of 5-8 male and female competitors in each team. A cash prize of $5,000 will be awarded to the World Battle Champions of the tournament.
As an add on to this year’s show, the 2006 Living Legends of Hip-Hop Award will be presented to Boogalo Sam (creator of Popping and the Electric Boogalo) on July 29 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.
Hollywood figures and choreographers that will be present at this event: Chuck Maldonado, Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Ashanti, Ludacris, Luther Brown, Alicia Keys, Mario and Brandy, Napoleon & Tabitha, Destiny’s Child, Missy Elliot, and Toni Braxton. The event will be hosted by actor and comedian Chris Spencer.
On July 28 at the Manhattan Beach Marriott Hotel, hip-hop workshop (Moves III) will be coached by the world’s best hip-hop dancers and choreographers: Chuck Maldonado, Luther Brown, Napoleon & Tabitha, and Don Campbell. This event is a public invitation to anyone who is interested. The cost is $75.
