High school teacher compares bush to hitler

Actually, the class is Human Geography, which is a branch of geography that deals with people and their environment, i.e. resources. So, Columbia and cocaine; Iraq and oil can be his legitimate topics.

However, I agree, he's still straying from the subject into his political agenda.

That's not necessarily a bad idea though, as long as he doesn't claim it as truth. There's no shame in reading the communist manifesto or even mein kampf in school, part of going to school should definitely be about learning about large belief systems which have changed the world, as long as you make sure you provide education about the consequences of implementing belief systems such as communism.

there is nothing wrong having students read this book. it just depends on the class and i dont feel that a world geography is the place for it. i dont feel that a core high school class is the place for it. maybe in an advance high school class or college class is a place to study that book

There's quite a few things I've noticed here. First, the father of the student is obviously a Bush-supporter. Second, the teacher is obviously very Anti-Bush. Third, puffnscruff doesn't care that it was geography class, his problem is that Bush was insulted. :)

The problem, overall, is that he violated school policy. The problem is not that it's geography class; every teacher is known to go off on a tangent. However, in my school, teachers are opinionated on things, but they usually use facts to prove their points and don't insult the person, but rather state a problem or whatever with their actions.

i could have been clinton and i still would have the same opinion. i think the father is pissed because the teachers opinions have no business being preached in class, specially not this class or any class

You gotta admit Puffy certain people get really pissed when an American President is insulted, and I got the feeling the teacher was being investigated more because he had harsh things to say about Bush rather than being off topic in the classroom. If it were a leader from another Country I doubt it would have even been looked at.

he is being investigated now because there is proof behind his preaching. sean allen said on an interview just 30 seconds ago this type of thing from this teacher goes on every day or every other day. the teacher spends about 80% of his time talking about his political ideas and pushing them on to the class and only about 20% of the time on actually geography. this teacher has been reported in the past by other parents but the school is only doing something now because there is proof. there is finally an investigation because the media jumped on this story after the tape was made public. the school had to act because its an embarrasement for them.

the teacher is lacking morals and ethics

this isnt about the president. its not about any president or leader of any country. its about whats right and whats wrong. what this teacher has been doing is wrong

Your opinion he's wrong, mine is he's striking up an interesting topic.
If Sean Allen said that, I'd like to hear what the rest of the class thinks just to make sure he hasnt got a personal thing against this teacher. The only thing I will say is the teacher should have been more balanced and involved the class' own thoughts more. But I dont think it was a devestating thing to do.

Not exactly. Far from it. This is about a disgruntled teacher that doesn't have anybody else to preach to, so he uses his classroom as an audience. He has strong feelings about the President and wants people to understand him and side with him. What this teacher was doing is nothing that we don't see in Words of Wisdom every day by our intelligent posters. The difference is, it was not the time and place.

i agree. i would like to hear others too, but i believe what sean allen said. he also said he doesnt want to see the teacher fired and he actually likes the teacher.

^You should read my post, it will explain your little geography thing, it is a geography/ world history and government class.

Everythign went the way it should of in this situation. The teacher was pretty much saying what no one hears about. Then the kid said his side and they debated. What is the big deal. You know what the best part of this all is, the kid went home to his father and asked him about it. Not to a video game, a tv show or music, to his parents. For some reason I like that a lot.
About your math thing, 2+2=6 is wrong. Who is right or wrong in this case? It is opinion, there is nothing wrong with sharing opinion.
I think people are getting mad cus they are afraid they might lose a vote or something, like it hurts you to see this happen. This is being blown out of proportion for no reason.

well i cant speek for the colorado school system like you can, but in my high school the geopgraphy class and the government class were seperate.

what vote? that makes no sense. the 06 elections? the 08? the president cant run again anyways so there is no vote to lose or gain.

i understand your point puff but still i gotta agree with that teacher

bush should work at walmart

I'm talking Republican and Democratic vote, like anyone cares who the candidate is, they just want someone from their party in office.

you could use that argument about the teacher too. it is clear he is liberal. he could be preaching to these students who are about to be voters, some of them might even be voting for the first time this year most of them will be voters by 08, to influence them to vote democrat.

he's still preaching propaganda imo

what i dont understand is if he is so anti-american why doesnt he just move? canada isnt too far away.

It's not that people are anti-America. I love this country, its people but I disagree with what we do sometimes. That doesn't mean i am anti american and move to Canada, it jsut means people who disagree with the country now need to do a better job to make the way they want it. Opposition should only make someone stronger, Republicans might not see that.
