Help me mix!

I use cool edit pro 2. I actually don't know much about it, haven't used it either cause i never had the time (and I still don't) but today I was recording and then I tried to mix my acapella and shit. Well, lets just say that I'm not good at mixing, you can tell it's badly mixed.

I need some basic help here, all I want is that my shit sounds good, you know. Incase you're wondering it's not the mics fault or my mixer or my soundcard ;).

The problem is pretty much this; I record my acapella and then I use boost up the volume but it doesn't sound right and I know there has to be more stuff to mixing then just boosting the volume up.

I would appriciate ANY help, just remember that I'm a noob on this so if you gonna explain, explain it good or else I won' understand lol.

you might want to try recording your vocals in a different place other than an open space like that. the problem with recording in an open space like a normal sized room is the soundwaves that your voice creates when your rapping bounce off the walls, windows, everything in the room, etc. all those sound waves come back into the mic and create a natural reverb and can sometimes make a slight echo. it's better to add reverb as an FX.

you could always try and make your own makeshift isolation booth with rugs, thick blankets, etc.

Thanks, I actually noticed it today and my friend was asking if I had put some echo on it while I was trying to mix and I said no.

about isolation; My room is pretty big and I keep my mic on a corner, how do I isolate it? Just the 2 walls my mic is near to?
