I've been downloading some heavy metal to see if there's anything I'll like. I've already got stuff by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Def Leppard, Anthrax, Alice Cooper, Dio and Guns N' Roses.

Any suggestions besides those?

All of those artists you mentioned are more old school. Classic bands and artists there though.

But the modern (90's/00's) metal scene has some incredible stuff as well. Make sure you cop:

"Roots" by Sepultura (1996).... The last Sepultura album before Max Cavalera left to form Soulfly, and a true genre-changing album. Max's vision of combining downtuned metal riffs with Brazilian tribal percussion was, and still is absolutely mindblowing. Look for the tracks "Roots Bloody Roots" and "Ratamahatta" in particular.

Soulfly- all of their albums have been incredible. If you want a place to start though, just download a few tracks, and then look for the albums of the tracks you like the best. Look for the tracks:

Jumpdafuckup (ft. Corey Taylor)
Bleed (ft. Fred Durst)
Prophecy
Back To The Primitive
Eye for an eye
Seek N Strike
Living Sacrifice
Babylon
Frontlines
Corrosion Creeps
Soufly V (this instrumentation on this will blow your mind)

"Demanufacture"
by Fear Factory. - this is a wicked album.

"Slipknot" by Slipknot - without a doubt, one of the greatest metal albums of all time.

I'll post some more later...

Thanks :thumb: I'll definitely check those out.

Yeah, I first wanted to check out the older groups because they are the pioneers and the screaming style of vocals (which I'm not too keen on) didn't come till later. I'll give everything a fair listen though.

After years of telling my little brother to listen to music he's finally found an interest in heavy metal so thanks on his behalf as well lol.

ok.

metal metal metal. iv been listening to it for a year or so thanks to some friends and i can say its the most powerful genre but its takes a while to get into some of the stuff i listen to, and you might not like it at first cause its pretty heavy/wild, but when you really get into it you'll find out how cool it is. what i mainly listen to is more melodic death metal or melodeath as its sometimes reffered to, easier to listen to in my opinion.
defintely check out children of bodom, heres one of there songs on "downfall" on youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=jDaHpJg-rsU . like i said its might take a bit to get into them but there amazing musicians, id reccoment the album "follow the reaper". Check the reviews to get an idea of what your listening to and have a listen to some tracks on http://www.amazon.com/Follow-Reaper..._bbs_sr_3/002-2269908-9984023?ie=UTF8&s=music .
Another cool finish band is kalmah http://youtube.com/watch?v=Qesc2QZXKRs (some fool just made that filmclip himself, its prety stupid) . i just got there album swamplord from the states there music is kinda hard to get hold of.

another album i got the other week is Dark tranquility - Character. awesome album different than children of bodom and kalmah

http://www.amazon.com/Character-Dar...=pd_bbs_1/002-2269908-9984023?ie=UTF8&s=music

and last ParkwayDrive there probly the easiest to get into at first there an Australian band there really popular over here in australia atm and are always touring, there more referred to as Metal-core, cross between metal and hardcore, but there fucking awesome http://www.amazon.com/Killing-Smile..._bbs_sr_1/002-2269908-9984023?ie=UTF8&s=music . if you get a chance download gimme a D the first track on the album.

anyway you might not get into them for a while/ or ever. but theres some good music there, iv only been listening to metal for a year or so, so i know fuck all basically, lol. so if some music-genre-hero comes in and trys to own me get fucked.
but thats nearly all i listen to these days i cant get enought of it.

also If you like Iron Maiden there new album is fucking AWESOME, A Matter Of Life & Death its called

http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Maiden-M..._bbs_sr_1/002-2269908-9984023?ie=UTF8&s=music

Also look for the new Guns and roses album this year called Chinese democracy ask militant about that, every song iv heard of that Is amazing. (exept silkworms - which might not even make it on the album).

*Goes on youtube and listens to "Catcher in the rye"*

Thanks :thumb:

Haven't checked any of them out yet but I'll definitely get around to it. First I'm checking out some of the more 'mellow' metal and then I'll listen to all the black/death metal people have been recommending. Makes the transition a lot easier.

^I know what you mean by the transition phase...I still havent been able to get into the whole Dark side of heavy metal and that type of stuff. Just enjoy such music from Staind like Outside or Yesterday. Also Seether: the gift is absolutely one of my fave tracks right now. check them out if you haven't

I saw Stone Sour live a couple weeks back, man they rocked hard.

Oh, check out Skindred - one of my favorite new metal bands - they mix up ragga with punk and metal, they fucking rock.

If you like Metal you NEED to check out In Flames. Preferrably their cd called "The Jester Race ~ Black Ash Inheritance" this is melodic death metal at its finest. If your not gonna buy this, at least download some songs off it.

The played here recently. I think Igor Cavalera from Sepultura was drumming for them, or something.

I think no one mentioned it yet, of course Metallica is (maybe) the most famous and theirfore an important Metall group and they have a lot of shit I really like (If you're in the right mood, S&M is just nice).

An old Metal CD I like is "deaf dumb blind" by Clawfinger, their song nigger is just a classic, I love Catch me too.

Maybe Manson and his "don't like the durgs but the drugs like me" is something for you too, :D

hey was up with the ladies of metal?

besides the bands that were mentioned, what about Archenemy?....Anthems of Rebellion, angela (lead singer), holds her own and more with the ammott brothers.....this is like classic ol metal with that new flavor, them guitar riffs are like razor blades and the growls,.....plus lyrics, you gots to check them out.....

otep is another band that i like..................sevas tra (dig), is a powerful album

and kittie......................thru and thru their BEST album to date is oracle...............pure madness................

all of these ladies put it down for metal, infinitely

also check out cradle of filth......i would recommend their live cd first if you havent heard any of their work (i got into them this way as i was 'dragged' to see this band live), but got VERY into them when i saw them live the 2nd time around.............but their midian album is also their best to date

Chronic mentioned them in his first post.

However, nobody's mentioned Megadeth. Megadeth are awesome. Peace Sells, Hangar 18, Symphony of Destruction...s'all good.

Nobody mentioned Motorhead either.

I loved Peace Sells... and Rust in Peace by Megadeth. I'll get the other 2 as well.

I have Iron Fist, Bomber and Ace of Spades by Motorhead on my to get list already. You know if the following are any good? Another Perfect Day, Rock 'N' Roll, March or Die, Bastards.

Again, thanks for the suggestions people, very much appreciated :thumb: I'll post all the heavy metal albums I liked a bit later, maybe some of you can find some new albums that way as well.
