It's about this orb, which is the culmination of all evil. This austronaut finds it and takes it home to show his daughter. Moment he opens the box the orb is in the orb kills him. The orb starts telling the girl a bunch of stories about people searching for it cause they think it holds great power. All their searches end in death basically lol. I think the purpose of the cartoon was to shock people (was made in the 1981, based on magazines with the same name) so there's a lot of gruesome shit and sex. Just entertaining to watch.

There's a second one as well with just one long story. Entertaining as well but I prefer the first one.

Back like 5 years ago I was somewhat into those japanese animated movies (my buddy got me into them), not the porn ones, or the kiddie shows, but the movies lol. But yeah, so I tried to watch all the animate movies I could find. The 2 "Heavy Metal" movies were part of them...
If the the movie was ment to shock you, then it did it's trick lol.

Off the top of my head, the best animated movie I remember watching was "Ninja Scroll".
