I though he was a great actor and played alot of great roles.

NEW YORK - A New York Police Department spokesman says the actor Heath Ledger has been found dead at a downtown Manhattan residence.

According to TMZ.com, Ledger, 28, was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 p.m. ET Tuesday.

The actor has a two-year-old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams. Ledger was set to play the Joker in the upcoming Batman film "The Dark Knight." He received an Academy Award nomination for his work in "Brokeback Mountain."

Ledger unresponsive. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately
called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said

Somebody posted this over at Mak-Forever forums about wat Ledger did to prepare for the Joker role.

The Joker's character is based on his first two appearances in the comic books, as well as his portrayal in the graphic novel "The Killing Joke." To prepare for the role, Heath Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month researching the character and developing his performance, which he claims is based upon Sid Vicious and the character of Alex in A Clockwork Orange (1971). Ledger found the role extremely difficult, and suffered insomnia as a result.

^^^It would be pretty fucked up if this is one of the causes of his death.

the guy is only 28, had a brilliant career, a daughter who is like 1 year old. i had read though that his separation with Michelle Williams had caused him depression or something like that.
