Is there such a thing as a headphone jack protector that I can buy?

I need something to protect the wiring and minimise accidental wear and tear at the source (3.5mm jack and wire).

I have similar headphones for probably more than 5 years now and there are no problems whatsoever, I just take good care of the wire near the jack. I've never seen a proper protector though.

It's quite common for the wire to disconnect from the jack when you bend or pull the wire. I think that's what Sandeep is concerned about.

It's just that when it's in the pocket of my jeans, the phone rotates to an undesirable angle at times and the wire bends exactly at the jack - which I think contributed to the left side sound malfunctioning.

I was thinking it was plugged into a house stereo. Didn't think about the phone...

I usually only use my phone if I go for a run (last run 3 months ago...!).. And then I strap it on my arm like a pro (dork).

Protect it from what? Coyotes?
LOL. I died.

I know what Sandeep is talking about. I've lost my current Samsung charger to that problem and also a few iPod earphones. It's because of what you mention but also because I just chuck them in random pockets in my pants, jackets, and in my backpack.

I don't protect it though. I take it for what it is - planned obsolescence. I just get another pair after.

There is a hack you can attempt if you really want to spend some time making a case by yourself. You can take a spring from an old pen and use it on your cord near the jack. You might have to struggle a little bit to make it hold firmly but when done it should prevent it from bending too much and breaking.

The final result should look like this:
