Technology Have an audio question

My question is....do you think u have 2 buy speakers of the same power of your computer card? Meaning, i bought a sound card.... 7.1 channel......so do i HAVE 2 buy speakers that are 7.1 also 2 enjoy the full power of my sound card?


i ask cuz i have a 5.1 sound card right now, and i just bought some miscelleneous speakers (they light up according 2 the sound, so i thought they were cool) and they're 2.1....but i'm listening 2 music right now and they sound great. So just wondering

i'm guessing so. it's sort of like having a top of the line video card with a 10 year old monitor.

Yea...i'm thinking the same thing. There probably is a difference in the sound from the speakers, but i just don't notice it.

They are not really different powers. But different processing modes.

You get more channels of sound. But you need more speakers.

I have a 5.1 card, but just use my laptop speaker. I have no need to get good quality sound from my PC.

If you want 5.1 sound, you need about 5 speakers and a sub. Is that practical? 2 speakers, and your card set to stereo will still give you good sound.

i figured it had 2 do with that....cuz the 7.1 speakers that i've been looking at always come in sets of 7 speakers. And also the 5.1 speaker sets come with 4 or 5 speakers.

I wanna enjoy the power of the 7.1 sound card...but the speakers i see cost like $400 ; / so i don't know

That's pretty much it. If you want to reach full potential, you need 7 speakers plus a sub, and if you have only 2 speakers, you will get the best sound possible if you just set your card settings to 2 channel
