Haiti Earthquake Aftermath

I heard reports that getting things back to normal (as they were before) would take roughly 10 years. That's an incredible amount of time. It's sad because you see these things on TV, or read them in the paper while you're in your nice comfort zone...while these people are suffering and are scrambling to survive. It fills me with sadness. I don't like watching images of dead people just lying on the street, but i think it's important these images are shown to highlight the immense scale of the earthquake, and how much these people require assistance.

Kind of how when Tupac said to show people on tv of all the war so they can feel bad about it and not think those 'ppl are dying heavenly,
so they can stop the war?

Seriously, if some people don't want to donate, there are some charities like Gaga's on the 24th.

Anything you buy in her site will be given to you, but the $ will be donated to Haiti.

Find something and anything like that, even if you don't care.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — As the focus on Saturday turned away from Haitians lost to those trying to survive, a sprawling assembly of international officials and aid workers struggled to fix a troubled relief effort after Tuesday’s devastating earthquake.

While countries and relief agencies showered aid on Haiti, only a small part of it was reaching increasingly desperate Haitians without food, water or shelter. “We see all the commotion, but we still have nothing to drink,” said Joel Querette, 23, a college student camped out in a park. “The trucks are going by.”

Hunger drove many to swarm places where food was being given out. Reports of isolated looting and violence intensified as night approached, and there were reports of Haitians streaming out of the capital.

The timing seems suspicious to me. This charity isn't brand new. Why try to discredit it at this exact time? Perhaps to make sure ppl continue to feed money into the red cross instead of into his charity?

Because nobody paid attention to his charity until now.

There are documents there. I didn't check.

I texted HAITI to 90999. I ain't texting YELE just in case. I'm not saying I'm believe this but I figured why donate to something I'm not sure when the red cross is more credible and more effective.

Btw I know a lot of people who have suffered losses. I wasn't affected directly though.

^Yeah. I also heard Haiti at some point had to stop all planes to come to the airport as it was overcrowded.

The help will never come as fast as expected. Nobody expected this to happen and noboby had planned the help. It's hard to fix up a help plan so quickly internationally. It's one thing collecting the goods, it's another thing bringing them to Haiti and actually distributing them. You go there and try to organize this with all the now homeless Haitians who lost everything and have nothing else to lose.
