Haiti Earthquake Aftermath

I didn't see it posted up yet, and I was wondering either nobody watches the news or nobody really gives a f**k.

But anyways, did anybody know anybody from there or affected in anyway? Does anybody care? Does anybody have any time to help? Does anybody have any thoughts on the topic? I stay in South Florida, which is relatively close to the island and the Haitian community, and I see it is effecting a lot of the people still. Hundreds of thousands were effected by this...I sure hope this madness can end soon.

What do you guys think?

I donated to Red Cross. I have some friends in Miami that said their co-workers can't find their families. Other than that I don't know anyone directly affected.

I've donated but since i'm not rich I feel like its not enough. I wish I could get out there and actually do something. But that's not an option right now.
I have relatives in the area, haven't heard from them yet.

Also... fuck everyone who is offering prayers at work instead of sending money. Your prayers won't feed, clothe or house anyone you assholes. Neither will your wimpy ass flower display. /end rant

Yeah, it's fucked up. I guess every time there is a tragedy, I don't feel the need to post about it. I'm sure everyone knows. Anyway, I donated to Wyclef Jean's organization.

I don't know anyone personally but my friend helps teach ESL classes for adults at our old high school and he told me about a Haitian woman that missed school the day it happened and then came the next day and was just out of it, tears in eyes, etc. Her husband and kids left for Haiti about a month ago and she stayed back and from what he gathered, she hasn't heard from them still. Also, they live really close to the epicenter.

We have family friends who live their and we heard from em and they are doing ok. They are a little more well off than most in the actual cities so they will be ok. I donated 50 to wyclef's organization. When katrina hit I was actually helping victims who had to move to CO, and I want to do the same now. I want to go to Haiti so bad right now but I don't know how to really.

I just saw on the news a huge group of Hatians singing and marching together, it's pretty amazing.

Thats what I thought, couldn't imagine living somewhere that has that many natural disasters.

As poor as Haiti is, it doesn't sadden me as much that the Palace got destroyed. Still the lives lost there is but the actual property damage.

sad to see them always get him by some form natural disaster. the people there are already poor, its like theyre livin in a hell hole.

There has been news of some shadiness surrounding Wyclef's charity. Apparently there are some accounting discrepancies and most of the money goes towards paying costs rather than too Haiti.

washingtonpost.com

Obviously his, is not the only charity out there and there are others where more money goes to the cause rather than in the pockets of its administrators.

The timing seems suspicious to me. This charity isn't brand new. Why try to discredit it at this exact time? Perhaps to make sure ppl continue to feed money into the red cross instead of into his charity?
