It's illegal to carry concealed weapon here. Probably why so many people are being shot on a daily basis.
^that's retarded. While I don't buy the "carry a gun as a preventative measure" argument that mr. jokeyboy likes to put forward, I'd like to have the freedom of having the ability to do it if I wanted to. The reason I haven't filled out the simple paperwork to get a CWL and drop a couple hundos on a pistol is because I'd probably carry it around, get a few tequila shots in me, and kill someone for no good reason.
I'm not saying that argument is solid.. but the criminals obviously have guns. The police have guns (but either not good ones or they are not trained efficiently) and the local random citizens get killed by the tens on a daily basis. I'm not exaggerating.. Check out a site like chicagobreakingnews seriously like every warm day there have been 10 or more shooting injuries or deaths.. the majority of the time its someone who has no criminal affiliation and it's usually outside of someone's home (home being the only place you're allowed to have your weapon). All i'm saying is.. maybe if a criminal knew that there was a high chance the person they were shooting at might shoot back.. they'd think twice before doing it.
I agree some people would still do stupid things... there was a guy recently who stole a gun from a police officer and killed him with it. Situations like that would still occur, but I think as a whole.. gun violence would drop.

There is no safe place on Earth. Maybe in Antarctica, but even then, polar bears, seals and penguins can be pretty gangsta when their turf is shrinking due to global warming.
It's just the principle that a criminal might think about before shooting someone is that they may shoot back and they may end up dying instead of their victim. It's not like we all carry around guns like IDs, just tucked away in our pockets. It's just so that a potential killer may think twice and would have to assume someone wasn't holding if they try to hurt them.
Or the opposite. The criminal thinks someone may be carrying, so sees no other option apart from being armed himself.
I don't feel like I need to have a firearm to be safe.. but I would like the option to carry one if I so desired. I actually live in a very nice area with relatively no crime at all, but that still doesn't mean the area is 100% safe. I don't live in Chicago.
Matter of fact.. one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Chicago, Lincoln Park, has seen a recent boom in crime with break-ins, an exchange student being beaten nearly to death by someone with a baseball bat, assaults on people while out walking, sexual assault on local women, etc. The people who live there pay millions for those homes. So.. again.. no area is "safe" although some are definitely safer than others.. but criminals are traveling these days.

Understood. However, I don't buy it. A criminal will just be more careful when trying to commit the crime and besides, a respectable innocent citizen with a gun isn't a valid threat, he/she's just a pussy with a gun when you think about it.
Unless said citizen has spent HOURS playing several COD games in virtual practice.
Although, if I can some how train my vagina to aim and shoot at criminals with a handgun... I might not need to be a good shot. That act in itself will stop most criminals I think, out of shock.
Sarcasm aside, I agree with your comment. I think it'll go both ways though, some will think twice, some won't. Some citizens will be armed and worthless and some will be lethal and not afraid to protect themselves.
And the bad guys won't know which is which and crime will go down, as it invariably does in places that get concealed carry.
It goes both ways. The problem is that criminals and crazy people would have easier access to weapons thanks to a law like this. Right now most criminals are being arrested for carrying a gun so they tend to avoid it. No weapons or "legal" things that can be used as weapons are still better than guns.
Even strict control of who is allowed to have a gun might not always work. And I don't know how does it work in America but sometimes it's hard to prove that you were acting in self defense.

I don't know where the hood factors in to this. My comment was a general one about the utter ridiculousness of the trigger happy gun culture in America.
