Hey Kiddos,

Most of you know, my gram was recently diagnosed with cancer and as I result, I moved out of my townhome to her place to stay with her and make sure everything is okay because she's taking Chemo, as well as a shitload of other medications for her Diabetes and High Blood pressure.

Sooo, recently she was MUCH better, and I had started to look at apts. again, because I was sure that I was going to be able to move back out shortly.

Well, i'm not going anywhere, today while out walking on the Lakefront (Lake Michigan that is) she passed out. The medicine she's taking for her diabetes, if interfering with the chemo apparently. They're on their way back home now, but she's going to need constant supervision.

Looks like I won't be moving and I might not be going back to school. :(

One door opens and another closes.

Thanks...she's on here way home now, they're going to have to evaluate her and change her meds around so that they aren't canceling each other out as they appear to be doing.

whoa thats bad :(

i'd have a solution for you but you might not like it.. i'd say put ur gram in a old folks place where there is constant supervision so she would be taken of always. then again we done that with our gram cuz we were never home and it was better for her. now i dunno if u wanna do that to ur gram. at some point i know you love your gram, but it aint fair for you to lose a great opportunity to get education.

Damn... the same thing happened to my grandma... she got cancer, was in the hospital for a long time, then she started getting alot better so she was sent home... but then she started getting purple spots on her again... we couldn't afford the hospital bills so my mom had to take care of her at home until.. well you know. :(

Damn trish, Im sorry to hear that, but I'm glad your trying to stay postive and taking the right steps. I really hope everything starts to look better soon. :(

Im sorry to hear dat bout ur granmother too kami. :(
You guys wanna talk, IM me.

Trish what semester are you in? Have you finished all your general required courses? If not, while you are back home go to a community college. I know that there are many community colleges' and since you live in Chicago I would pressume that it is a large enough area with a close enough college to attend.

Also why are you the only one taking care of your grandma, where are your other families?

We go by quarters, i'm a junior, but i'm behind schedule, because i can't always take full time classes and stuff like this happens and I have to take more time off.

Luckily for me, I took a shitload of classes my freshman year while everyone else was goofing off, I was taking like 5/6 classes a quarter.

Yeah, I have to see what I can do, the problem is, DePaul doesn't accept too many credits from diff schools, especially community colleges, also 80% of ur credits have to come from DePaul in order for your degreee to be from DePaul. (I just found that out recently)

The rest of the family is around. A lot of my family isn't in Chicago, the family that is, they're too caught up in their own lives to sit around with some old lady. Although, that might not be how the really feel, that's what it seems like.

And if something happened to her, I'd feel like it was my fault, if I didn't do exactly what i'm doing for her now. She's my family, so even if no one else is doing anything, I feel as if that doesn't mean I don't have to do anything.

Sometimes it's frustrating, but...she's my gram, and I love her.

^i feel you. i go see my gram every saturday at her center. if someday i'd miss thew saturday and a few days after she'd die, i'd have tons of regrets. okay its not exactly the same things, but its kinda the same feelings.
