Film & TV Gladiator

#1
Okay, so I'm a little late with this one, but I just saw it last weekend.
Borrowed the DVD from a friend of mine who practicly forced me to watch it. Apparantly it was the extended edition with 17 minutes of extra footage.

Being an avid non-fan of Russell Crowe, I have to say that he didn't annoy me as much as I had expected.

I thought it was a pretty decent movie with an extraordinary soundtrack. Nothing more, nothing less. Beautiful sets, brilliant music, but the story was a bit poor in my opinion.

Why exactly does nearly everyone consider as a brilliant movie? It's even in IMDBs top 250 (although that doesn't count for much, I know).

Drop your thoughts.

I think Gladiator is a mucho-blow em up-pink mist-kill em all-flick without being obvious, it hides behind the historical-epic-intelligent mask (which is not a bad thing imo). The film is supported by good acting and it is visually stimulating but after all said an done, it's just a good movie. Nowadays I'm satisfied with watching that one scene where Crowe murder all those fighters by himself, instead of watching the whole thing.

its a crappy movie. the continuity in that movie was so bad. i never knew they had guys in white tshirts and blue jeans operating cameras on a tripod back in that century.

plus tire tracks in fields. that was nice. didnt know they had suv's and trucks back then.

that movie had soooo man mistakes in it i cant even watch it anymore.

Agreed. It was good without becoming great. The fight scenes were dope and Crowe is a good actor.

I didn't like the bad guy. Their emperor was lame. Although he played a good part at looking totally psychotic, his head wasn't evil enough.

Now the emperor is the one thats dope. Jaquin Phoenix (sp?) is a great actor! He was awesome as Johnny Cash in Walk The Line!

I liked this movie, the setting and battle scenes were great. Some parts were boring (well, almsot everything that doesn't involve fighting) but I enjoyed it

Star Wars and LOTR are considered to be excellent movies, yet they top the chart on the amount of mistakes.

This sums it up quite nicely.

I thought the emporer looked liked a famous Dutchman, and no, that's not a compliment.

Yeah hes a good actor but his head didn't fit an evil emperor. I dunno. Some things about Gladiator were "not right".
