Saying an album is the best of it's genre (is pop music a genre) is perfectly acceptable in my opinion.

Let's just say, there was nothing similar to Thriller before Thriller. That most albums released in the popular music category aspire for the success it achieved. Every track was brilliant. It spawned many a single. Production was class.

Michael Jackson was a super superstar. His tours were massive, everyone wanted a piece of him. His fans would literally have died for him. Katy Perry doesn't generate that hype.

I wasn't a Jacko fan. But I remember the Bad album and his Pepsi Tour.

"Teenage Dream" is half-decent with only 4 songs that I would say are great. I like Katy, but she's got about another 700 million records to sell before she can test the KING OF POP. Also, 8 of the 10 songs on "Bad" were written solely by MJ. There isn't ONE song on "Teenage Dream" that Katy wrote on her own. Not one.

I'm a decent dancer myself... and my sister used to date a break and streetdance instructor for 3 years, we all lived together for 2 of those years along with another breakdancer guy.... their idea of a fun evening (aside from actually dancing) was to sit and watch Breakdance championship DVDs from all over the world.

So I've seen most of the best dancers in the world perform. And NONE of these guys, not even consecutive world champions had as much natural rhythm and innovation in their dancing as Michael did. Not one. Some of these same guys are in the "This Is It" DVD because they were auditioning the best dancers from all over the world. Watch in the movie when Mike does "Billie Jean" and they're all standing there watching him, they are just in absolute awe of him. Even the most respected dancers of the 20th century like Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly were blown away by his talent.
