That seal hunt is to
1) cull baby seals because their numbers are high, and they eat the cod which are in low numbers. Baby seals are the only ones hunted because they have fur, and killing adults would put a major dent into the population.
2) money and food for natives/hunters.

I can see why people don't like the seal hunt, but most people don't like it because the seals are cute. If the seals weren't cute there wouldn't be such an uproar about it.

Hunting animals for fur is one thing, it usually doesn't even really harm the populatiuon, but how the fuck can you skin an animal while its still alive? thats so fuckin sadistic, it sickens me. really, people who do such things to (rather harmless) animals are people i could not be in 1 room with. it almost shames me as a human that we can do such sick ass shit.

EDIT: oh and it must be said for the sake of fairness that the comparisons with j-lo and her fur are a bit exxagerated. most fur trappers carry out a decent trade on limited scale. the things shown here are the more extreme types. its still disgusting tho

we're trying to raise the Cod stocks back to where they were 50 years ago, but if the seal population grows in huge leaps how will that happen? Canadian fishermen have a set limit on how much they can harvest a year, you can't tell seals how much they can eat a year. If all the cod are gone, the seals will starve and people will say "SEALS = TERRI STOP STARVING"
