Free Tookie

why does he deserve to be free. i understand who he is, and i also understand what he was a part of and help create. i understand the crimes that put him behind bars, and that he is a 2 time noble peace price nominee. but why does he deserve to be free?

He has probably served a long enough time for the crimes which he commited. And which appeared to be a stitch up, to be honest.

But I'm not sure if he is actually rehabilitated. He seems kinda dishonest.

Should he be free? Yes.

Is he a changed man? Undecided.

Also read the book. The book shits all over the film.

But a better book is "monster", he doesn't make excuses for his crimes unlike Stan.

You think you know he's changed because you watched a movie?
Supporting and advertizing a petition based solely on a movie is idiotic.

stanly "tookie" williams, while at the young age of like 14, co-founded the crips. after many years he got sent to prison, was a real bad ass dude in prison, then he decides that he learned the errors of his ways, and sees how what he help started is tearing familys apart. he got bloods and crips into the same room with out killing each other. nominated two times for a nobel peace prize.

the fx channel did a movie called redemption starring jamie foxx about williams. good movie.

I think he has changed, his royalties from his books go to a foundation set up to stop gang violence and theres no doubt that he has changed in my mind. I think he should be saved from execution because he could be a great leader for stopping what he created, I read in a book called Uprising that the best way to get through to the kids is by people who were actually involved in gangs. People who can get through to them on the same level, Stan I think is a great role model.
Although I'm not sure he has stated his innocence so that should also be looked at, although theres no doubt he did bad things. He shouldnt be killed at the very least and this is why:
Tookie,
I am a 20 year old man from Iowa. I have spent most of my life doing things I knew I shouldn't be doing. It wasn't until I turned 18 that my life started to spin out of control. I hooked up with some Colombians and was living a life where every day I expected to die. I got jumped into the Gangster Disciples Street gang in late 2002. For 2 years I lived the life you lived. There was a time when I was ready to do the most savage thing at a moment's notice so no one would want to mess with me. I felt that if I portrayed myself as the baddest man out there I wouldn't have any problems. That wasn't the case.
The other day I sat down after I watched your movie Redemption and thought about all the things that I've done in my life and counted how many years that I should be in prison. Every day between the age of 18 and 20 I risked getting 25 to life for the things I was doing. I counted the years I should be doing for the other things I did and in 6 months time I racked up well over 300 years doing the minimum time for each crime that I committed. Only through the grace of my higher power whom I choose to call God that didn't happen. As well as no longer living a life of crime or violence I am also a recovering addict. I will have 8 months clean on June 15 -- that is 8 months without the use of any mood changing chemicals. Before I watched the movie I was making plans to start living my old life again. I wanted all the money and girls and respect (or fear) of others -- but after I watched the movie and started to do some research on you, I found that we are not all that different. I realized that I was going down that same road in a hurry. You helped me see that. The only way I can think to close this letter is to try to express my gratitude for the way you touched my life. It is with the utmost respect and gratitude that I say thank you.

I read Monster twice, the second time was better. I recommend anyone who enjoyed Monster to check out Uprising. It's along the same lines but interviews 9 or so Og's about how they got involved why they are bangin for peace and what needs to be done or changed for it to work. An excellent book.

Stan is on Death Row. Life is more important than money. He is going to donate money in the hope of persuading the powers that be that he has changed.

I believe he's served a fair amount of time behind bars. I'd like to hope he is honest and is no longer cripping. But I don't know. He doesn't seem to take responsibility like Sanyika does. He seems to make excuses and defend the creation of the crips.

i have a lil bit of faith for our system... he helped found one of the baddest gangs in the US, that alone ties him to a shit load of murders. has he changed? who the fuck cares... if he was al capone and pone was nominated for the nobel peace prize and started helpin niggahz would we have cared? fuck no... plain truth is that he already fucked up his chance.

Just cause the niggah knows that he is gonna die in prision now he wants to help peeps and shit dont mean shit. if he was out he wouldnt give to shits. honestly u think a thug would change his ways if not for the incarceration???
