CBS/WPRI) EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - John Foreman, the father of a 5-year-old boy who was brutally murdered more than 30 years ago, revealed gruesome details about his son's death to a radio station Monday, while saying he would kill his son's murderer if he is released from prison early.
"I do intend, if this man is released anywhere in my vicinity, or if I can find him after the fact, I do intend to kill this man," he said on WPRO-AM's John DePetro Show Monday morning.
Foreman's son Jason was stabbed and killed by their South Kingston, R.I. neighbor Michael Woodmansee in 1975. The boy's shellacked bones and skull were found in Woodmansee's home seven years later, while police were investigating an attack on a local paper boy, reported CBS affiliate WPRI.
Woodmansee received a 40-year sentence, but because of a plea-bargain agreement he is eligible for release as early as August, according to a Providence Journal story released over the weekend. It was this news that incited Foreman's radio show rant.
The victim's father described details from his son's murder that were never heard in the 1983 trial because of the plea-bargain agreement and a judge's order to seal all the evidence.
Foreman called his son's killer a monster and a cannibal, who ate his son's flesh.
Many of the details of the killing remain in Woodmansee's diary, which Foreman says he wants to access.
Foreman now has major regrets about consenting to the plea-bargain agreement.
"I put it all behind me... and now, you know, 12 years off for good behavior, come on. It was a shame he only got 40 years to begin with, he should have got a life sentence," he told DePetro. "But stupidly, I allowed the plea bargain to go so I wouldn't have to put up with the agony of hearing all the events at that time, I didn't want to hear 'em."
The office of Attorney General Peter Kilmartin released a statement Monday saying he's urging the Department of Corrections to consider every possible avenue to keep Woodmansee behind bars.
