A father who tried to break up a fight between three of his children and two other teens Friday night was shot to death when he stepped between his 19-year-old son and the shooter, police said.
Police identified the father as Reginald Isaac Johnson, 41, of 6405 West Bellfort.
The teens were arguing in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 6400 block of West Bellfort about 6:30 p.m. when the dispute erupted into a fistfight, said Sgt. Robert Torres of the Houston Police Department's homicide division.
"The father came out basically to defend his children because he saw they were being assaulted," Torres said.
"One of the teens pulled out a gun and it looked like he was going to shoot the 19-year-old son, but Daddy got in the way instead."
Johnson was struck multiple times, but "the original shots were not intended for him," he said.
Johnson was rushed to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Torres said.
Police said Johnson had moved with his family to the southwest Houston apartment complex from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Police were interviewing his three children as witnesses late Friday. They were looking for two black teenagers, both believed to be from the Houston area, who fled Friday night.
The shooter is described as a 19-year-old man, about 6-foot-2 with a short fade haircut. He was last seen wearing a white multi-colored pullover shirt.
The second teen, possibly a juvenile, was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. The 5-foot-10 man received a cut under his right eye from the fight in the parking lot, authorities said.
Police ask anyone with information about this slaying to contact HPD Homicide at 713-360-3800 or CrimeStoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Oh well they are cool now. One has a cut above an eye while the other one shot someone. And both are going to prison hopefully.

A new Rap group in the making?

Well that is really sad that something like that had to happen but it happens everyday and many times you just never hear about it so it's nothing new. That's really sad that somebody had to die like that but he must have been a great father for stepping in and trying to handle the situation and sadly it backfired on him and he died because of it, but he saved his sons life and as a parent, you would do anything for your children even take a bullet for them (weather you know it's coming or not) I'm sure the father would have gladly taken a bullet for any one of his kids any day over standing there watching one of his children get shot to death. As most parents would. He saved his sons life.

thats a sad story..i could only imagine how it would feel if that happend to me...R.I.P.
