The older generations are claiming that this generation is dumber than ANY previous generation.

Who/wat is to blame and what do we make of it of our future?

I feel that even genetically, bodies aren't as tough as they used to be. In the world of Sports, if you see football players from way back to now, we suck as far as being durable.

Kids don't walk to high school like i used to. They get rides everywhere now, or take the bus.

Is it the easy access to sweets and transportation?

Is Technology to blame?

What of Society?
Why does Webster have to add LOL in the dictionary?

Why is NWA videos not banned on MTV and BET, but the Games Red Nation banned?

Violence is not the problem.

It's sexuality, if anything.

As sexuality increased from granny pannies to thongs and porn everywhere, violence decreased but generally stays the same whether they block it or not.

It seems like our Parents tried a different approach and saw that the America opportunity is to make it easier for their kids, when they should be out trying to find ways to become entreprenuers, inventors, etc.

The opportunity to become something, changed to the opportunity to pursue happiness. Something that was mis-read. imo.

You can say Money doesn't buy happiness, sure, but not doing what was possible with your life doesn't either.

What do you think is the problem?

*notice i talked of different subjects to make it more broad than usual*

I don't know which generation do you mean and what do you mean by "dumber". Well, each generation is (on average) smarter than the previous one, obviously.
Now if it comes to sports it's because kids these days have other (they think better) things to do. When I was a kid EVERYONE would play football (soccer for you Americans) outside, you could see shitloads of kids just running and playing games, having fun that way. These days most kids would rather play xbox.
Now when I was a kid I had video games too but playing sports was the cool thing to do. Now it's not. Hopefully it'll change.

However looking back at our ancestors they usually weren't as "fit" because of poor diet, poor medical support (or lack of it) etc. etc. However they were more durable and fit as far as "sports" were concerned. Back in the days it was all about fitness. The one who was the strongest got laid, did his work the best, kicked all butts - basically things that a primitive jock would consider important these days - and they are the most frequent gym visitors after all. Basically things like these were all that mattered decades ago and now human evolution is struggling to catch up - being muscular is no longer important for our wellbeing but chicks still dig it because they are outdated like that. So with each generation it'll probably be less and less important.
These days it's all about brains and knowledge. Material goods or physical work are no longer the "wealth of nations", knowledge is. I think it contributes to the lack of balance, people forget that being physically fit is important too but frankly the definition of "fit" is changing too.

alot of kids ,adults 4 that matter
live in their own fantasy world in 2011
its not exclusive to 2011 but its more prevalent

2 the original post whats funy in how inevitable the sexual revolution was in 19 hundred and 50 60s is when every bodys naked theres nothing left 2 take off that can apply to the other points in this post as well-people lacking substance and they suddenly are left vulnerable

traditional family units arent viewed as ideally as they should in 2011 2 many childs born out of wed lock and broken homes this all lead to confusion of certain morals

its funy you bring up Webster dictionary i too dont like that shit

alot of it i see as an unnecessary lack of discretion

but with NWA i look at it like Pac said. he said they should take more responsibility im not sure u can argue they would Have to take more responsibility but said you should as far as a rapper skipping over the consequences of one glorification or another
and with Pac you could see in reality at times the consequences
even though Pac didnt have a record until he made a record ,the consequences of fame were at the least parallel

I think the opposite.

We are achieving far more now than any generation previously. In sports, how many records exist that are over 10 years old. Not many. Check out Bolt.... Is he weaker than previous 100m sprinters?

I don't worry about us physically or technologically. The world is better than it's ever been in a lot of ways.

I worry about my country's toughness level, compared to, say, 1945. The entire country won WWII, not just the very specialized class of forgotten people that is our military today. We're used to being nominally "at war" while not having to participate or even think about it. If a world war broke out today, we might not have the toughness to win it. America's gone soft. Blame parents, or maybe the internet, or maybe parents who allow the internet to raise their fat, stupid kids.

When we have the better part of our nation engulfed in a labyrinth of consumerism and ceaseless selfish pursuits for self-gratification, we ultimately end up with a society of citizens alienated from their authentic selves and from each other.

Young adults today are too numb to notice or feel there is anything authentic and real around them. This has been the primary conditioning they received from their families, education, and environment, and so in some ways it's all they really know. Instead of possessing ideals to carry society to a higher level of realization, most are spiritually adrift and extremely distrustful of everyone except a close circle of friends. Worse, because their imaginations have been severely repressed as children, both at home and in school, this is a generation wandering in a desert without any authentic vision for a life other than competing for money, dominance, and indulging in ceaseless entertainment.

And what happens when maturing youth lack the imagination to create a noble ideal to strive for? They expect entitlements and rewards for simply inhabiting a body and being in a culture that has lost its ethical bearings and whose only purpose is endless consumption.

That's a good point.

Especially for Britain (England). Could the Country carry on while London was being Blitzed in this day and age. I know you had Pearl Harbour, but to have the Germans dropping bombs on the country's capital city almost daily seems (can't think of a better word) unbelievable to me.

I say America’s gone soft, but then I think about 9/11. Look: okay, the attack, yeah. Whatever. What I remember is the world’s greatest city totally refuting everything it was known for. The essence of living in New York City is: ignore absolutely everything you see or hear. There’s a man with a tinfoil hat and a Casio breakdancing in the middle of the street, screaming about poltergeists? And he’s about to be hit by a car? Not your problem. There’s a couple having sex in the middle of Houston Street? Keep walking. Get on with your day.

To see New Yorkers stopping and staring, stopping to help, well—whatever to all of you—it was amazing. I don't apologize for my sentimentality. It’s a city of bad motherfuckers, but that day they all stopped to check on each other. Make sure they were okay. It was fucking beautiful. I think probably if there was another horrific attack, we’d be good. We might even be better in the aftermath.

A war, I question the country’s ability to band together and win it. An attack? I don’t question New York’s capacity to absorb another one. Wouldn't miss a beat.

This post may not be entirely germane. But you got me thinking.

I always thought New York was pretty friendly when I visited.

I guess we won't know how people will react until that day comes. If it does.

How is London's friendliness quotient?

Friendliest city I've been to is Montreal. The people were all sweet and unassuming and happily weird. I love it there.

Yeah, most people say that when they come here. lol. It's the idea that Montrealers have a certain "Joy de Vivre" - Well, that's what touristic promotions like to say about us at least.

If you speak to someone in London, even to say good morning or ask the time. People will think you are weird. We don't talk to each other unless we know each other.

ie. Not Friendly. lol.

Unless you drive a Black Cab that is.

Edub, you were close to it. almost.

every generation is smarter, obviously?

Really?

I think you are blinded by the advancement in technology. you're pretty much consumed with that idea bc technology is advancing further than we've ever known.

Did you even happen to think that the world population has been sky rocketing and our advancements are created by the same people, or every once in a while a smart ass kid comes out of nowhere and solves/creates something?

By our population, and advancement in technology and all that, we shouldn't be having as many dumb people. There are people in middle school that don't know their ABC's fully. I know them PERSONALLY.

The newer generation is getting dumber bc we rely on the technology now. They don't know multiplication of the top of their heads as good because of calculators and such.

As a whole, we are getting weaker bc of our easy access to stupid food. We are only somewhat healthy bc of the advancements vitamins and things placed in the limited good food tat we do come across. We are too busy playing video games instead of doing something more productive.

and how are women outdated like that? There are shallow women. Always have been, always will be. same for men.

They want big muscles, we want big asses. That's going to be taken into account bc the man isn't lazy. Instead of playing video games, if the woman is smart enough, she will know that he chose working out instead. Therefore, he possibly will be a better husband.

so it's not only about shallowness.

I think the opposite.

We are achieving far more now than any generation previously. In sports, how many records exist that are over 10 years old. Not many. Check out Bolt.... Is he weaker than previous 100m sprinters?

You can't use that logic. In sports, rules change.
Equipment changes, shoes... etc..

Im not sure, but if you put a big FAST back like Jim Brown in 2011, he would do better than say, Adrian Peterson.
Hell, Adrian, actually is always injured, so that's not even a good argument, but he's supposedly one of the top runners in the NFL right now.

(Keep in mind, the equipment has gotten better in time)

and are the Winds taken into account of Bolts sprints? ...evn so, that's ONE man.
I'm saying as a whole.

With our advancement, we should be seeing some crazy runs right now. They should all be like Bolt or better.

So, basically you are saying the generation of the 70's raised the children of the 90's wrong, because of the way they were conditioned...

That distrustful thing is sooo spot on, but then again, everyone IS backstabbing people these days because people are conditioned to be lazy but still want to be praised.

Just gonna ignore my post Shadows? OK. I see how it is son.

My bad bro.

I just think it's being too far fetched.

We have the missles to do some damage. Did you not see Obama launch 100 mothafuckas?

If the world war came out, we would win if the Leader decided to just H-Bomb mothafuckas without having to sacrafice anyone of us.

But thats why they say if the WW3 started, it'd be the end of the world bc that's what the logic others would use.

If the country is against me, (not just one person, like lately) then everyone would bomb the fuck out of everyone.

We are getting faster as sprinters always. We have cut seconds of the time from 20 years ago. The Top 10 runners now would be the number 1 runner in the 70's. The only equipment is running shoes. They haven't evolved much.

Are you on twitter? I'll follow you but only if you "tweet" more often than you post on Facebook. Also, step your status game up, son.

...about the distrust. I could fall under that label. Hell, I could fall under a couple of those but that's for another time. I think we're more distrustful because growing up we've seen so much distrust and betrayal everywhere around us. I know I have. But it's kinda interesting. We trust people less but we still reveal more than we have ever before. I don't trust my friends with my credit card number but I trust Sony? WTF, where's the logic? Sony fucked me over. Interesting.

Really?

Yes. You were using selected examples too but on average we are getting smarter. Actually your video game example was bad, because video games and electronic gadgets are said to be the factor that contributes to boosting our IQ growth a lot:
http://www.tomorrowstrends.com/2006/09/are-people-getting-smarter.html
Decades ago people couldn't comprehend things that we deal with in our everyday lives. People wouldn't be as smart in life too. Brains are getting more and more complex. It's a fact. Obviously there will be dumb units but I meet little of them in everyday life. I don't know a single person who couldn't read or write. However being smart is being able to learn, not having that knowledge or skill. And people these days are able to learn much more than our ancestors.
Bare in mind that everything was much more simple back in the days. Great inventors centuries ago invented very basic things. Great scientists and "wise men" really didn't have a lot to learn because there wasn't much knowledge around to have. That's why you could hear about an expert in all arts, maths and history. People would think in a very simple way compared to how we think these days. Each generation is obviously getting smarter, even if there are still stupid units. That's evolution.

A choice of a woman with "bigger ass" can be explained - the chance that she'll give birth to a healthy baby is bigger. However enormous muscles on men are irrelevant these days. Sure you have to be fit and all but you don't have to look unbelievably strong as it usually doesn't even go in pair with health. Females like these big muscles because our instincts can't keep up with our world.
Now the problem is that educated people seem to make better choices even as far as picking the "other half" goes while others seem to mate with each other like hell.

masta, are you making the distinction between accumulative knowledge and the knowledge actually held by individuals? Obviously "we" know more today than we do decades ago.
