Yeah. His girlfriend phoned up and told Staunton that Stephen's grandmother had died. She then told him that she'd had a miscarriage, but that she thought they'd let him come home if they thought his grandmother had died. He went along with it, until the FAI and Man City pointed out that both his grandmothers were alive.

Can't blame him, or her really. If he'd told the truth initially they probably would have let him go home anyway.

I was thinking the other day.Imagine if Yugoslavia never broke up. I have no doubt that they would have won at least one major championship during the 90's.(maybe the 1998 world cup)

and you do realise that Croatia on their own reached the quarter finals of Euro 96 and were only narrowly beaten by France in the semi final of World Cup 1998(finished third)?Yugoslavia reached the 2nd round in 1998. Add in players like Barbarez(Bosnia) and Zahovic(Slovenia) and you have a great squad.
