Film & TV England football team way overated?

Why do the english media talk about the english team like they are world beaters? what have they ever done in the last 30 odd years to be so over hyped? Sure they have some good players but when push comes to shove they always flop its different for wales, republic and northern ireland and scotland we are tiny little countrys, but you would expect a little more from a country the size of england the way jimmy hill and his cronies sit around on sky on sunday morning you would think they are the worlds best team it aint even like they have anything to boast about, start boasting after you win something.

England isnt as big as other nations tho, like Germany, France, Italy, Spain etc.

Anyway the England team has alot of good players like: Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes (when he wasnt retired) A.Cole, Campbell, Terry, Ferdinand, Rooney.

The team under achieves, and plays negatively in big games vs Portugual and France, where really the team should be attacking, coz it has the players to do so.

But look at Spain, ranked 4th best team in the world, what have they won recently? Make a thread about them. Along with Mexico, they were in the top 10 ranking list for a long time, again they didnt do anything.

I guess we are overrated, but i feel in the last couple of tournaments we have underachieved abit. I cant even think of as comment about the scottish team cuz they have nothing 2 talk about, apart from how can a country that has produced great players like Dalgliesh, Souness and John Robertson have Barry Ferguson as thier star player???

But u know the media here allways builds teams or players up just 2 knock them down a peg or two. in the last world cup we should really have disposed of brazil, but due 2 the tactical genius called sven, we just sat back against 10 men and didnt even bother trying 2 win the game. whether we would have gone on 2 win the World Cup is a different story.

Then in the Euro Championships, we only had 1 game plan, give it to rooney. then when he got injured, we got exposed, thanks 2 the ineptness of sven again.

the thing that some people dont realise about the England National team is the sponsers have a contract saying that all the best players HAVE 2 play in Every game, even in friendlies.

also about svens tactics, why does he insit on the players 2 give the ball 2 beckham so he can launch the ball 50 yards up pitch towards 2 little midgets in owen and rooney when 9 times out of 10 they come up against 6+ foot defenders??

If Sven knew anything vs Portugual why didnt he play Scholes in the Rooney role, instead of wasting Scholes's talent on the left hand side.

i think Sven was the reason Scholes retired.

^^And we also have Wright-Phillips, the little Dynamo as i call him. Downing has the Potential 2 make the left wing his own. and we have Defoe, i rate him better than Rooney, as i feel he is extremly overrated. Also:
Sean Davis(once he gets good form for Spurs),
Michael Dawson(as a Forest fan, this lad will captain England Soon)
Jermaine Jenas(another Forest product, Awesome player, Captained Forest at the age of 18)
and if Leon Osman carries on playing good for everton, i see no reason why he shouldnt be givin a game. he looks a good player.

And it would be good 2 see sven give Andy Johnson have a run of games, and not make him a 1 cap wonder like Michael Rickets(remember him?)

This is the best set of players we have had since Venables 96 squad, some would say these are better than Bobby Robson's Italia '90 sqaud, but i think that squad was far better.

players like Lineker, Gazza, Butcher, Pearce, Shilton, Waddle, Beardsley and even Paul Parker are better than what we have got 2day, IMO.

No I don't think they are overrated, they receive a fair amount of credit from the media, I mean compare world squads player to player and we have one of the best. I feel they do slightly under perform but we play well when it counts the most. And it may seem like i'm talking bullshit but we are extremely unlucky.

When i found this out i couldnt believe it too, but im not kidding u bout this.
I heard this on talksport when all the fuss about the England players were going on strike over Ferdinand, a ex-FA member came on and spoke 2 Kinghorn and Cascerino.

A prime example of this came in the 1998 world cup. Remeber Ronaldo had that seizure hours before the game, the brazil manager didnt want him to play, but Nike orderd him 2 play the game otherwise they would have ended the deal between themselves and the Brazilian FA.

Robinson - In the top 10 keepers
Neville - Reliable and pushes on
Campbell - Top defender but he is getting old
Rio - All round defender, one of the best
Cole - Pushes on very well however struggles at defending (improved though).
Becks - Way overrated but has the special touch that can win games
Gerrard - Best Midfielder in the world.
Lampard - In the Top 10 Midfielders. Scores good goals.
Wayne Rooney - Special Touch. Plays well in big games. Top player
Owen - Needs to play more for Real to get back to his best. Still good.
Defoe - True striker, great potential.

On paper we look good but we always underperform. We are an up n down team.

I haven't read much praise at all for the England team since Euro 2004, if anything they've been gettin slagged off majorly.

The media does hype us up in major tournaments (remember them Sctottish people? ) but i guess it's another form of support, and after all it is our national sport, remember how crazy the Scottish papers went over curling? Same thing.

At the end of they day, there's a major tournament every two years so only one team is gonna have undisputed braggin rights bi-annually. We're a lot closer to challengin than a lot of teams, i personally think Sven needs to go though.
