United's slide has nothing to do with the loss of Beckham. It's to do with the lack of replacements for Scholes and Keane, Fergie's ineptitude in the transfer market, Carlos Quieroz, 4-3-3 and Roman Abramovich.

Age is obviously a factor, but there's also the fact that Ronaldo is a winger and I think United's play suits wingers (see: 2005 FA Cup final vs. Arsenal). The 2005 F.A cup final though is a prime example of c ronaldo's poor crossing and finishing, because although he was playing really well and getting great positions he wasted the ball too much (although van nistlerooy was guilty of it on that day too) they lost that game because of those to players that day,

Rooney is strong, can beat his man, has a good awareness to the game and can see and create spaces for others but make no mistake, he isn't technically better then C Ronaldo. I never said he wasn't a special player. However, all this hype doesn't mean it's justified, that it really describes him. I'm sure you've followed this sport long enough to know what happens everytime a talent pops up. How many time haven't we read about he new Maradona or Pele? Riquelme,Saviola,Aimar,Tevez just to name a few candidates. And there are tons of other examples to and you know it. Not saying that these players are bad, but just that they aren't as good as they were looked upon, maybe wishfull thinkin?

He is technically gifted, but really, the things C Ronaldo can do with a ball is simply different. But the differnece is that Rooney can put effeciency to his work while Ronaldo sometimes get carried away. And I also agree that he has a great vision, as I posted earlier. But listen, players like him are/were common in England back in the 70's, players like him grew on tree. The last english player that had flair,technique and all what you can think of Zidane is Gazza. The english media are somewhat overrating Rooney, not to say that he isn't good, but he isn't THAT good as the papers make him out to be. As for former great players comment (such as Maradonas comment about Rooney) should only be taken with a pinch of sault...

We lose to N.Ireland and we are shit. Sven is shit.

We win in a meaningless friendly and we are the best team since 66 and have a chance of winning the world cup. I'd say we could win it, but only with all 11 players giving 100% for the whole tournament and no injuries and a lot of luck.

Besides that, and we are a top 8 team only.

However with Rooney on form anything's possible. Take Mexico 86 and Maradona.
