Eminem's lawyers withdrew his Manhattan Federal lawsuit against The Source magazine yesterday. Slim's controversial early recordings, where he disparages Black women, might become public again following a judge's ruling this coming Monday.

"There is nothing left to win," Em's lawyer, Donald David, told New York's Daily News. "The judge already decided we have the copyright, and he awarded us $131,000 in sanctions. So the case has no purpose anymore."

On the other hand, The Source founder and co-owner Dave Mays told the Daily News, "They want this withdrawal so they can avoid the public embarrassment of having Eminem on trial in New York."

Slim sued The Source for copyright infringement after the publication distributed several of his old songs with its January 2004 issue. The CD featured a young Eminem spitting derogatory remarks about Black females and using the "N" word.

Mays, who claims victory, said that the CDs standing will be decided on Monday. Judge Gerard Lynch is scheduled to rule on whether the suit has been withdrawn "with prejudice," meaning it can't be filed again. Mays is confident that The Source will be allowed to publish Slim's lyrics following the ruling.

"We have been vindicated whichever way it goes," Mays declared.

I think Slim won. If there was a winner.

Benzino has a washed up magazine and a career on the slide, that started off low enough.

Eminem is loaded and even if he can't make an album that pleases the heads, he still has MMLP and SSLP. Plus his producing will improve and he'll get a lot more rappers working for him.
I think he made his point, and got a lot more support from Black Americans than you'd expect from that kind of racist comment.
