he probably thought that by his 30s Proof would still be alive, he wouldn't have to battle addictions. he probably thought he'd be living a normal/peaceful life. which wasn't the case.

and i agree, relapse will be better than encore. he has topics he can rap about now. not like encore where he had nothing to rap about.
