When I hear shit like this, I can't help but think that this shit is put on because people really can't be that stupid. However, I used to know this girl and we hung out one night with a bunch of people and I ended up asking her all these simple questions to see if she knew the answers. I must have asked her 30 questions but these are the standout ones that I remember. At this time, she was 25 years old and a nursing student.

I asked her:

How many states are in the US?
How many continents are there?
How many oceans are there?
What does the FBI and CIA stand for?
Who won the battle of the Alamo?
What is Pearl Harbor?


She got none of these correct. I was completely floored. I don't remember all her answers but I know that her answer to the continents question was in the hundreds and she thought Pearl Harbor was a boat.

I've known for years that Americans are dumb. But I think there's a clear difference between memorization (which is what the American education is) and critical thinking. One could compose a wonderful piece of music but not know the number of states in the US. Does that make one a retard? Memorizing trivial facts doesn't make you intelligent. On Leno's JayWalking - they interviewed a 12 year old, who got the easy questions right, because the facts are fresh in his mind - if they were to ask these kids what the significance of Pearl Harbor is -most of them will give you what they memorized from the history book.

i think people are just jealous of americans and what we have... they cry we eat too much, use too much, complain too much... if you've put the rest of the world in their place or are currently in the process of doing so, i think you deserve to be able to lay back on your laurels and do whatever the fuck you want...

as for intelligence, i think people themselves determine that.. the education system can only do so much... if the dude's set to be a janitor or a car mechanic biologically, then there's nothing you can do about it... those are the people that cant find places on a map.... somehow they do manage to make it out of the shithole... ms. south carolina?
