So it appears he's gonna walk.

I believed the Guinean housekeeper's lawyer, when he described her injuries in brutal detail. Maureen Dowd spoke to a source in law enforcement who compared it to the rape of a prostitute: regardless of the rest of the evidence, the victim is too marginal to be credible.

I think Strauss-Kahn might be an extremely shrewd predator who chose his victim for a reason. I think he had some sense (from brief conversation? From practiced, predatorial instinct?) that she was not a pious, struggling immigrant mother. He knew she was involved with some kind of sketchy activity, and thus would be utterly unable to credibly accuse him. Maybe he looked at her and saw somebody who would be too scared of being deported, or arrested herself, to call the cops.

So my view of Strauss-Kahn has changed. Before, I thought he was some kind of freakish infant-beast, lacking impulse control, cosseted by a history of misbehavior without repercussions, somehow too sick to evaluate consequences. Now I think he's evil.

I think he is/was part of the untouchable elite who believed he could do what he wanted and the peasants couldn't touch him. But I also believe that he underestimated the support for Sarkozy from America. So I believe that he was set-up, but that he is also a misogynist and a rapist.

The woman's story changed on many occasions, the phone calls to her boyfriend, etc... but then again, the injuries are there... DSK is a known womaniser, don't give a shit what his previous lovers had to say, they could have been paid off, or watching their own backs. Take a perverted womaniser and turn him into an elitist who thinks he can do what the fuck he wants to - who knows what that person is capable of.

Then we have the set-up by Sarkozy, a smear campaign if you would..... which for some reason isn't sitting well with me. I know French politics has a history of vicious smear campaigns and odd circumstances with ministers, but this seems a bit too much.
