I been wondering lately if this is a general truth or not, and would appreciate other peoples honest oppinion on the subject. I am all for Ideology, but as if black is white - I deplore assumptions.

Now think for example Tupac's actions, against his words and the effect they have had. Or maybe a better comparison: todays Politition's actions, pitted opposite their words.

Is it safe to say that this is true %99.9 of the time, and is it the same as saying: "People would rather listen to my fists than my words" ?

I said yes always, people can say whatever they want but it doesn't mean anything at all until they prove it to be true.

Just like someone can tell you everyday all day that they love you but until the show you that they love you, people with common sense won't believe them.

of course actions speak louder than words. if they didnt than we would be more scared of getting threatened than getting hit.

Doesn't that proverb simply mean to act on what you speak?
I thought it was only used when people talk about doing something but don't do it. Never heard of it being used in the literal sense.

I am surprised.

If 'The ink of a writer is ...' then words are more powerfull than actions. No?

This isnt talking about actions associated with words, for not everyone acts on what they speak. And that proves nothing.

TBH I would welcome the thought of just about to be hit, rather than wondering if I am going to get by wondering. Threats mean something else.

Yes I am talking about it in a literal sense, I mean words are a part of language.

It is a statement, not an instruction.

'Please don't stay on topic' - is an instruction. Just like: 'follow your words with actions' is an instruction.

'Actions speak ouder than words' is a statement. I'd like to know what makes people think it is an instruction ? ? ?

Not exactly sure what you're saying but "actions speak louder than words" isn't a general statement. It's used in a certain context.

For example if someone keeps talking about doing something but never does it, you say to them "actions speak louder than words".
It basically means that doing something means more than talking about it. It doesn't mean that an action is always more important than words.

'Actions speak louder than words' is a statement with wisdom within. it is the because of the wisdom that people take it as an instruction. It ties in with
'easier said than done'
'after all is is said and done, more is said, than done'
type of thing.

But as a power, words are much more impacting and long lasting than physically agressive actions. <-but this is a different context.

I like Chronic's point where he says "For example if someone keeps talking about doing something but never does it, you say to them "actions speak louder than words". " Some things need "actions" to prove your point. You can't expect to be all talk, but there are situations where talk is better than actions. Like politics, some country is causing trouble, you don't just start a war. You "talk", and in order to set things right "actions" may take place. But I think general talking is just as good or better than actions. Actions are only used when no one believes a god damn word you say.

I understand what everyone above me has said, and give my thanks aswell for I have not viewed the statement in that light before.

But someone saying that about what I have said, would really be saying "I disregard what you are saying", and may as well announce from the rooftops that they declare me a liar, instead of taking the tiniest effort to listen to what is being said.

Did Socrates ever need to act on what he said? No. Language is a Philosophers tool. With him and his 'disciples' it was a two-way conversation, debate, whatever ...

-We must be based on nothing better than communication- Relationships are borne on communication, and thrive on it. Especially in todays world where everyone who is anyone is sitting at a PC sharing informationm with everyone all over the world. Is anyone gonna ask me to act on anything I have said on here? What could I do, but get banned?

If someone is asking for actions on top of words, what they are really asking for, to me, is a Martyr. People who say this are -in my oppinion- ignorant and do not want to listen to anybody but themselves. This reflecting on their morality and their willingness to sacrifice relationships.

I like to keep things simple, so to me: actions do not speak louder than words; (generally) and from a philosophical perspective. I will not be compelled to act on what I say, by someone else, I would rather try and point out an ignorance. I won't bore you with my oppinions, and stop here. Thanks for reading.
