A death warrant was signed on Monday (Oct. 26) that clears the way for Stanley "Tookie" Williams, co-founder of the infamous Crips Gang, to be executed at San Quentin prison in mid-December.

Superior Court Judge William R. Pounders signed the death warrant on October 24. The judge rejected requests by Williams’ attorneys to delay the execution until December 22 to give them more time to seek clemency from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. "This case has taken over 24 years to get to this point,” stated Judge Ponders, according to the Associated Press. “That is a long delay in itself and I would hate to add to that delay.”

The December 13 date gives Williams’ attorneys until Nov. 8 to submit a clemency request, a small timeframe. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to consider Williams' case earlier this month. Williams was sentenced to death in 1981 for fatally shooting Albert Owens, a convenience store worker, in 1979. He also was convicted of killing two motel owners and their daughter during a robbery that same year.

Williams steadfastly maintains his innocence and his supporters attended the court proceedings to rally on his behalf. Despite his past, the former gang leader has renounced his past lifestyle and penned children’s book. Furthermore, Williams has been nominated for the coveted Nobel Peace prize and actor Jamie Foxx played the convict in "Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story."

Williams, 51, and a high school friend Raymond Washington became started the Crips street gang in Los Angeles in 1971. The gang, well known for their violent ways, were mostly identified by the blue color worn by their members.

Many of Hip-Hop’s elite, West Coast artists in particular, have often been criticized for glorifying the gangbanging lifestyle and pledging affiliation to the Crips. Artists such as Snoop Dogg, Dub-C, Eazy E, Ice T, Daz, Kurupt, Warren G, Tray Dee, Goldie Loc, Coolio, MC Ren, MC Eiht and a host of others have been affiliated with the Crips.

The Crips became popular throughout southern Los Angeles as more and more youth gangs joined it; eventually they outnumbered non-Crip gangs by 3 to 1. In response, some of the besieged smaller gangs formed an alliance that later became the Bloods. For decades, there was a bloody rivalry between the Crips and Bloods until a peace treaty was eventually negotiated, ironically by Williams.

Williams is schedule to be executed on December 13. A website, www.savetookie.org/, has been erected to galvanize support him.

they have been trying to get him off death row for a long time. i cant really say that he should be.

i could never see the terminator doing anything for williams

i think he should be a man. take his punishment for what he did.

^^ I disagree. What is the point of jail? Revenge? I thought it was to rehabilitate people. This guy has done a LOT to stop gang violence, I mean, its not like there would have been no gangs had it not been for him.

I mean, he's a Nobel Prize nominee for crying out loud! He has been rehabilitated and worked to redeem himself. He has bettered the community. He should be allowed to live, killing him now will do nothing positive and will only serve to endanger the peace.

he did get the peace treatys together... and he has done alof for SoCal as far as the violence goes

he has always maintained his innonsence... doesnt mean he didnt do it but.....

he has done much more good then bad

when he dies...LA could go up in flames

i dont see arnie stopping the execution tho... he doesnt care

you make good points and i do agree with them but i just feel that in the eyes of the justice system the harm, pain, murderings, and the cancer he helped create, out weights all the multiple nominations for the nobel peace prize and the bringing together of bloods and crip gang members.

but there has also been some speculation for sometime as to if he really is rehabilitated and maybe just acting like he is to get off death row

also... if LA does go up in flames... this will be 50% of the reason...

when all you know is too gangbang and then the only person who has actually achieved something in stopping the violence between the gang.. is executed... that will only let the kids on the street know that they dont give a fuck.. or atleast give them that impression

whats the other half of the reason?

I agree with Rukas but i also see where Puff is comin from. It's a pretty complicated situation and sure he DOES deserve what he gets for past crimes, however keeping him alive would undoubtedly make a positive contribution to society. Like it was stated, becoming a nobel peace prize nominee ain't easy. It takes some real dedication to receive that honor and to me, it just doesn't make much sense to give the man the death penalty. Let him free and give him the chance to redeem himself and make good on what he's done in the past. Imagine the number of lives he can reach by just giving out speeches at schools across california.

if he had never contributed anything positive to society.. i wouldnt care what happened to him... but he has saved a couple hundred thousand lives. if not more...

he could save alot more

but "by the book at all time" politicians will never let him live

"he broke the law so he must die"

I posted a thread in letter to the president about this. We should make a sticky somewhere or put it up on the frontpage if possible. Man's life is in some asshole hands who have no compassion right now and although there's a slim chance they end up giving a shit about what we have to say in the petition, we should atleast ride for someone who is actually making a difference in this world.

:thumb: Real talk. Peace to dude.

This is a perfect example of someone who has been re-habilitated, which is the purpose of jail. If he get's executed which he most likely will it will be a shame. I hope California goes up in flames if he dosn't get clemancy. Sign the petition, and consider putting this on the main site Ruk.

What pisses me off is that it's taken more than 20 goddamn years for them to execute this bloke. I mean, you've been sentenced to death, that's bad enough, but then the motherfuckers leave you in jail for 20 YEARS. That's one whopping double sentence.

"You're sentenced to 25 years in prison, and when you did your time, we're gonna kill you anyway. BAHAHA"

I dunno, man. System's fucked up.

This man does not deserve to die, plain and simple.

If anything he set an incredible example for youth and society in general.

First of all, like ruk said, he is not the first man to form a gang, be part of a gang or kill somebody. This would have happened either way, but in doing so he set an example for a state plagued by gang violence.

By him forming a gang, and being convicted of killing people and then being able to rehabilitated himself the way he has and actually message out to children that it is wrong, he is definately setting an example.

Infact he has set an example, he has shown that while someone can make mistakes and do the wrong thing, they can also correct their mistakes by doing the right thing.

If it weren't for him, the gang voilence of the 80s and 90s, especially the rivalry between crips and bloods and the blood being shed would be continuing at the same rate today.

So if anything the fucking state owes him a thank you, he has set an example and put peace in the streets.

And really, when you think about it... isn't it better that it was a man who fixed his wrong doings then a man who created something and sat there in jail and did nothing about it while hundreds of kids go out and die every year?

the guy killed several people himself, and many more were killed indirectly because of him, because of the gang that he started. for these things he deserved at least life in jail, probably capital punishment.

what bothers me here is that they made him do some 20 years. they should have killed the man after he was convicted and none of this bullshit would be going on.

now i never like taking sides and there are always two points of view to everything and i also feel that he has done good and being nominated for Nobel Peace prize is a great accomplishment, however that has nothing to do with the law and the judge couldn't give a shit if he pulled some Oskar Schindler shit and saved many lives. he murdered and none of this "rehabilitation" puts him above the law.

his life was over after he got convicted in '81.

The guy is 51 years old man. I don't think he's going to go back on the streets and start chopping rocks.

I dont know anything on thus subject, but someone said this dude killed people himself? and yall praising this dude like hes a saint?

Nobody is "praising" him like he's a "saint".

He made a mistake, yes he killed people. But people have been killing each other off since the begining of time.

What gives anybody the right to take another man's life? (What makes the state of California any better then him if they execute him).

You can't replace another person's life by take another person's life.

Yeah some people were killed, but killing him isnt going to bring any of them back.
