Definitely not a serious issue but Black Friday this year is going to be weird. The past few years, I used to go to a local mall around 2 or 3 AM and hit up the Nike and Adidas and other clothing stores and just go to town. No crazy stories or people fighting but I'd find a lot of good stuff. It was a good time with either family or friends to just walk around and buy shit.
That same mall, during the quarantine, imposed limits on the number of people allowed in a store and even the larger store allowed about 20-30 people, max, at a time. I wonder if people will just forego waiting in lines for BF and if the mall will just be the "regular" length of lines that I've seen the past few months as a result.
More importantly, will retailers put better deals online or will they go the opposite direction and not offer as good deals because they've been hurting since March of this year. You'd think people's bank accounts are running lean right now and no one is out buying unnecessary shit but from what I've seen, at least on tech circles, is people are very much ready to spend $500+ on new consoles and $1000 of graphics cards. Even the auto industry is doing "OK" and they are still moving cars with ease.
Maybe Amazon's Prime Day next week will shed some more light, even if the deals aren't all that good and just end up being cheap Chinese shit no one buys. Other retailers, like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart also plan on having sales next week to compete with Amazon which makes me think that BF may not have as much importance to many retailers.
Prime Day got pushed back this year by a few months but it's still not ridiculous to see sales a month before BF as "pre-BF" sales. Those sales have been starting earlier and earlier in the past several years. What's really retarded is "Black Friday in July" sales. I'm not mad, though; I picked up a $400 Dyson vacuum for $120 last year July from Macy's lol. But if BF is a dud this year, either because of the poor deals or the lack of customers, I wonder if BF gets axed and retailers start to have "sales" similar to BF or Prime day at random times throughout the year in the future. Like Steam has, or used to have, Summer sales that people waited for.
I guess the Holidays will always be there and sales will always happen close to Christmas but speaking specifically about BF and its notoriety for people beating each other up in the middle of aisles of Walmart for a $59 BluRay player, that might come to an end if COVID forces social distancing at these events and people decide not to go or just the retailers are hurting so much that they can't afford to risk having a fire sale

It will be an odd Black Friday indeed. If it becomes geared towards online sales, what about Cyber Monday? I highly doubt that it'll get axed. 2020 is a year to forget. Pretty sure if a vaccine comes out, things will get back to normal in regards to shopping physically (sales, etc.).
It is not quite as huge in Canada; sales resembling Boxing Day and actually in past few years pre-Christmas sales. Only a few select items are really worth it, otherwise it is pretty standard sales. I have never really shopped during Prime Days, might look at it this year.

I may have misundertood what Cyber Monday was but I thought it was generally for electronics/tech deals whereas Black Friday focused on literally everything else from clothes to home goods. lol I'm going to feel dumb if Cyber Monday insinuated a new wave of deals came out but were geared towards online sales. Although I do think the line has been blurred as I see online deals "pre-BF" and then BF brings a mix of online and in-store deals. Even if CM meant just electronics, I still saw big deals on tech a week prior to BF, during BF, and then shortly after BF. Those names probably mean nothing anymore anyway. They just toss out anything they find in inventory and price it a few bucks cheaper and call it a BF deal.
The only things I'm looking for on Prime Day or BF are some cables and chargers. i'm sure I'll end up buying something else but that's just what I'm "looking" for lol
So I might've been a twat the past 6 months but do you guys wear a mask when in your car and going through the drive thru at McDonald's or something? For some reason in my head I felt that not getting out of a car meant I could leave my mask off but I only recently thought about it and how it doesn't make sense to not wear a mask when swiping my card or grabbing the bag of food. I don't drive around with my mask on, so it never occurs to me to wear a mask until I'm stopped and about to get out.
I am on Tier 3 Lockdown, which means I can come to work and go shopping etc but not go to see my mum and dad in their house, but can sit in a garden with them or drive round in a car with them same for seeing friends in other house holds

I went to Wendy's near my house yesterday and one of the employees who took the money and gave the food was not wearing a mask nor wearing gloves. I think she may have been the manager because she was not wearing the usual, red polo shirt that the cooks or cashiers wear and she may have been a manager.
She had ridiculously long nails (race need not be mentioned) and I imagine that was the reason behind her not wearing gloves. I think most people here have stopped giving a shit about masks and other safety protocols. Maybe in a city it's more of a big deal but in the suburbs, everyone is rocking a chin-diaper and just having a good time.
Tomorrow, Friday, the city of Chicago is set to revert back to more strict rules on restaurants and dining-in. I think we're basically back to shutdowns from May because people couldn't behave themselves. I don't know the "tiers" or "levels" of these restrictions but I feel like we might be heading back to more businesses being told to close entirely and not serve anyone, like it was early on. I know one place that messed me up was haircut places/salons. I had a mop on my head for almost three months because I couldn't get a haircut. I debated just buzzing it all off myself for the first time in my life. Such a small thing that only becomes an issue once you can't get it.
Most things are still open at the moment, just not allowed there with other people which is mad.

I only wear a mask because I can't be bothered with the grief people give you. I'm not worried about coronavirus, I'm young and healthy enough. I'm also not very tactile and would always socially distance myself from people naturally. Plus, I wash my hands....

I don't think I've seen any other country take it as seriously as them, or make the news as often as them for the trend of infection.

My friend's husband's covid symptoms started 9 days ago and now they both need respirators to breathe. They are in the hospital back home and he isn't doing that great as his lungs are wrecked. They are both 30 and very healthy and active. His work involves coming into contact with a lot of different people, and one of them was likely sick - he doesn't know who.
This thing is not as likely to mess you up if you're young, but it's not that uncommon either.

Early during the quarantine, I would hear some talking heads in the sports world, among other places, say that this thing was projected to last a long longer than 2020 and in to the good part of 2021. Now I'm seeing things mentioning all of 2021 and in to 2022.
It is ridiculous how long this has lasted when compared to what the expectations were earlier this year. No vaccine and no country seems to have it under control, despite all the measures being taken.
I'll echo another post from the early days of this thread: if/when all of this is said and done, will the world be diligent in finding out the origin of the virus? The fingers were pointed at China being the epicenter and the virus possibly being created in a lab. Either it was accidentally introduced to the rest of the world or intentionally introduced, whatever it is, do you think all countries not named "China" will be interested in getting to the bottom of it? Or will it be deemed racist to question and punish China for either intentionally setting it loose or failing to notify the rest of the world of the outbreak and keeping it under cover?

If it was natural, which is by far the most likely scenario, what could've been done? Coronaviruses are extremely common in bats and other animals, and transmissions from animals to humans is just a matter of time, and just more likely if you have more people. In particular people who eat exotic animals and have low sanitary standards like it's the case around rural China. There aren't any good solutions that I can think of apart from exterminating all natural hosts. Otherwise we're going to have more of those nasty things move from other mammals to humans over time.
