Police said Jerrry Smith was sitting outside her Delany Park home on 426 E. Gore St. on Easter Sunday night when Miller allegedly stabbed her several times.
'I just went nuts for a minute," Miller told Local 6 News cameras. "I didn't mean to hurt the lady. I'm terribly sorry it happened. I lost control of myself."
Investigators said Miller met Smith a few days before the slaying.
"She invited me over to visit with her," Miller said.
"Were you under the influence of drugs at the time?" a reporter asked Miller as he was being walked to jail.
"Crack cocaine," Miller said.
Lionel Michael Miller.
Investigators said a neighbor heard her cries and tried to intervene, police said. He was stabbed and injured at the home.
Police searched for three days for the person who stabbed Smith and the Good Samaritan. They finally caught up with him after a Crimeline tip, Local 6 News reported.
Miller was arrested 15 minutes after the warrant was issued.
"We got so many tips that came in," Orlando Detective Michael Moreschi said. "And we got a tip and it actually started out as with this might not be anything but and then it led to one of the big breaks in the case."
Local 6 News has learned that Miller served prison time in the past in Oregon for manslaughter stemming from a bar fight.
Investigators are withholding information about the motive of the attack, Local 6 News reported.
Miller is being held on murder and attempted murder charges.
