It seems that I've developed such a case. The problem is, I'm not sure due to what. A month ago, I got a cold and was coughing/wheezing/sneezing/had a runny nose, the whole nine yards. At the same time, I developed a slight habit for smoking when intoxicated - meaning I'd light a couple cigarettes when drunk or high. The problem is, I'd get drunk or high frequently. Anyway, my cold disappeared after taking medicine but the coughing stuck with me. It can be said that I've been constantly coughing for more than 3 weeks or so. I've stopped smoking cigarettes and thank God I didn't develop a bad habit for it yet - I haven't developed an addiction, as far as I know. The thing is, it's probably due to smoking that I'm constantly coughing now, and not like a symptom of a cold or anything. That's frightening, I have to say. Now, I know I have to go to a doctor if I want to treat this but I just want to see if anybody had similar experiences and how they overcame them. Does the doctor give you medication or merely tell you, "stop smoking"?

If you only started smoking recently, this won't be due to that.

I'd say you just caught a bad cough virus and the smoking hasn't helped.

a lot of people won't believe me when i tell them that smoking weed is not better for you than smoking cigarettes, as most pot smokers will tell you. it's simple biology. buds produce tar (resin) when burned, and this substance is vaporized due to the heat. some of it cools to coat the pipe or end of the joint, but the portion that is still vaporized travels right down into your lungs. likewise, as a by-product of the combustion you're inhaling carbon monoxide (and butante for those who use bowls). while pot smoke may not contain the additives of commercial tobacco (it may however contain pesticides if you enjoy schwag) the fact of the matter is that you're inhaling the byproducts of a combustion reaction. as an illustration, take a toke and then exhale it through a white t-shirt pulled taunt over your mouth. what stains the shirt is what is being exhaled - so you can stand to reason that what stayed in your lungs is more substantial than what you see.

i'd advise taking a break. chronic smoking of anything can directly lead to bronchitis, which can be chronic. hit the booze instead of the pipe for a bit, and if you need to smoke when you're being social (the synergy of smoking and drinking is undeniable :) ) use a cigar so you won't be inhaling to your lungs.

I'm around second hand smoke alot (and that makes me caugh lol)..but one of the reasons I don't smoke is because I don't want to ruin my health.

if u've been smoking for only a little bit, and not even that often, i doubt its the cigerrettes. i smoke alot of chornic n smoke cigerrettes after the spliff or when im drunk for the past couple of years and when i went to the doctor he said my lungs were woozy or sumshit, prescribed me 2 inhalers...i used it for like a week n stopped smokin for dat week...den i jus stopped using the inhalers cause i was feeling better n jus went back to my usual habits. i say u jus go to the doc and check it out

true.

P.S: I constanly smoke, I constanly caugh and constanly I don't give a fuck.

Word, i actually just quit smoking cigarettes 2 1/2 weeks ago... I'm so proud of myself, i've been smokin since i was 15, and i'm 18 now.. i haven't smoked a single time i've drank since then which i thought would be the only hard part..

But yeah i actually have had a chronic cough too, and it doesn't help that i've still smoked weed quite a bit since i quit smoking cigarettes, i'm quittin that too.. Booze is better... But yeah i've had this cough for probably a good month now, it started out with a cold just like you said SOFI..

I hate the cough, its gotten a lot better in the best 2 1/2 weeks but it still just jumps out of nowhere and i cough uncontrollably for a bit at times.

it's funny..

i have had about 30-40 sober days since january 15th. the rest of the time i've smoked every day. i have not once had a caughing problem. my roomie who doesn't even smoke and isn't even a victim of second-hand has had the worst caugh for about six or seven months now.

:D

you could have Asthmatic(sp) Bronchitis

Sofi when you cough is it a deep cough? you'll get antibiotics for your coughing.

let me ask you another question. when you cough does it feel like somebody took a bat and smashed your ribs. cause if you feel that you may have Pnuemonia.

I got double Pnuemonia when i was 16 an it started out as a chronic deep cough. i had to spend a week in the hospital. when the antibiotics were kicking in, it was the worst feeling ive had in my life. i wanted to die i felt so bad.

defintely go see a doctor

Funny someone made a thread about this.I have constant wheeziness(spelling?) and coughing when i get up in the morning.I have also got a few chest infections over the last 3 years. Some have been pretty severe. The last one i got was a bad dose.Ive also got allergies. My eyes get itchy and i start sneezing.

Ive went for a chest x-ray which was clear. The doctor sayes that if the x-ray comes back clear(clear of blockages) then i may have developed asthma or bronchitis.I never went back to him since.I guess i should.I reckon this is affecting me while im playing sports.

sounds to me like your a bit of a hypo , ease up its probably allergies or hayfever or something

A hypochondriac? I'm certainly not. I'm looking for answers to my problem, I'm not here to fake a disease. I never had any allergies and never had a cough for more than a week and it was always with something else. Now, it's just coughing, nothing else. Come on, think for a change.

I'd say it's deep, yeah.

Nope, that's what's weird. I don't feel that and don't have a sore throat either. Plus, I don't have increased temperature or anything.

I'll just take a break from smoking cigs and weed till New Years and if the coughing doesn't stop, then I'll go to a doctor.

Go to the doctor. I have asthma and use two inhalers and a pill. Abueteral, Advair, and Singulair chest. They work wonders. Get some tussenex from the doctor. Sip on some siizurp. I smoked weed for 12 years but recently stopped about 7-8 months ago. I'm saving my lungs. Fuck it.
