Perhaps its different overseas, but here in order to work at a Chemist/Pharmacy you need to complete a lengthy University degree, its either 4 or 5 years long and costs a shit load of money.

I don’t get it.

Why would someone spend all that time and money to essentially end up selling me condoms over the counter? It seems to me they could have saved themselves a lot of time and money and just gotten a job at the nearest petrol station. It's just retail!

It makes no sense to me.

And the people that work behind the scenes filling the prescriptions, shit that’s just a factory production line. I went in there today to get some antibiotics and cough medicine and its like a Chinese sweat shop in there! A row of three Asian men, the first opens the container and passes it to the second, the second fills the container and passes it to the third, the third closes to container and passes it to the front desk. Shit I was tempted to ask for some knock of Nike’s while I was there… But that would have been racist of me, right?

Well, it's similar over here - if they finished their education they can really make a lot of money u know, esp if u own the store.

Nah, you need a degree to be a "chemist" or "pharmacist" but the people who serve behind the counters dont. I know the people who work at my chemist and they didnt go to uni... damn, one didnt even finish high school! lol.

On a different note... everyone is getting sick! All my family, my friends... half of mum's office is sick... lecturers at uni. Damn winter... although i suppose technically it is spring as of today.

Over here to work at a pharmacy you dont need any experience. They do try to hire students that are going to school to become doctors or something of those lines.

Well the people in the production line need degrees.

And it was a joke anyway ;). The meds have gotten to me, but fuck you all, click the banners and shut up. ;)

And vote 1 Pittsey for Admin.

you need a degree in pharmacology to work as a chemist. Think about it you have to make sure you are not going to give the wrong combination of drugs that will react againgst each other. Also looking at the right amounts etc. In the uk you can make alot of money by being a chemist- for one shop roughly £60,000 pa. The people that really kill it though are the dentists- its not uncommon for them if they have there own surgery to be making over £100,000 pa. Plus they have easy hours. But yeah the people( other than the one who is qualified) that help in a chemist shop are simply shop workers. Most likely one dude has the qualifications and just has his family helping out. That being said next time your at uni check out your math/science classes. Most likely they will be dominated by asians. I am studying for a Math bsc at the no 2 uni in the uk- in my lectures of over 300 90% are asians- they are simply harder working and more intellegent as a whole than other people imo

I know loads of pharmacists nd essentially it is like working in a paper shop, ok, slightly more stressful and mentally challenging but essentially the same thing

i thought Australia didnt get very cold?

^^ It does in their winter. Then you see Kangaroos, koalas, Amaras and Rukases in big coats, furry hats and pink mittens.

they go to school and spend all that money and time so they can come out of college and make $80,000 - $100,000 their first year out.

so while some of the workers at the walgreens store you buy your condems at, or where ever, are making 5.15-7 bucks an hour. the pharmacist is making 100 grand a year to sell you your condems
