It is a common myth.

Though by no means healthy and proud of it, excess grease takes away from the quality of the cheesesteak. Genuine Philly cheesesteaks have mastered the grease to bread ratio, making them delectable and completely enjoyable in all aspects, including handling.

When trying to determine if you've been sold a counterfeit cheesesteak, the amount of grease is a good sign. If it's soaked, it's a knock-off attempt trying to take advantage of this misconception.

If you're ever in the area and can't get to one of the classic Philly shops, I recommend trying a pizzaria. Not Domino's or Pizza Hut or any of that crap. A small, family owned one. They tend to do a good job.

Well, I'm in PA for the summer right now. My friend is down there and she said it's pretty awesome.

And I'm neither. I've been a Canes fan since they moved to Hartford, but I'm not a huge hockey fan. I follow them regularly, but I don't get that into it usually. I got more into this year obviously, as I did when they lost to the Red Wings. But I'm a huge Carolina sports fan, which is why I'm so excited. Carolina's first pro sports championship

You don't get good cheese steaks outside of Philly. Period. There's a shop in Harrisburg that's pretty good though, although completely non-comparable to the ones in Philly.

I think the Cheesestake at Jerry's sub and pizza tastes like shit, so did the one at McDonalds.....come to think of it I've NEVER had a good cheesestake!
