cell phone question

ok, I don't see a tech talk section anymore, so I will ask in here... I have Sprint as a cell provider, when I put songs on my memory card in the phone I can't assign them as ringers, I know there is a certain file needed to be used as a ringer, my question is does anyone know of a program that will convert my MP3 files to a file useable as a ringtone?

yea, for some reason my phone will not let me use MP3's from the my content folder on the phone as a ringtone...kind of BS but I found a link on another forum for a site you can use so this can be deleted if anyone wants to

verizon has the same problem... easy way to fix this..


go to itunes and find the mp3
go to info, and edit the length of the song to about 30-45 seconds or so... go to the preferences and where you can select what the audio converter converts it to, switch to .wav.....
make a copy of the song and check to make sure that it is the 30 seconds or so that you told it to be...
find out the email address of your phone... usually it's your phone number@yourserviceprovider.com
email the song as an attachment to your phone..
you should get it as a video or picture message..
download it, usually you will be charged, but if you have free texting of any kind, you're set....
you'll dl it, but it'll save as a sound file.. and just change your ringtone from there


and i can vouch for the method and say it works, my current ringtone is big L-"Flamboyant"... not something you can find in mp3 stores... not with the "bartenders" and "lollicocks" that are dled a million times a day

thanks dilla I also found a site... www.makeownringtone.com and you can choose any mp3 from your computer and shorten it to whatever 30 seconds you want, then it gives you a link to download it or you can text it to your phone...only problem is my phone uses mp4 for aac files so i still have to bring itunes into the mix but that site kicks ass if you have a phone that can use straight mp3's as tones

If you don't have a phone that enables you to put a whole mp3 song as the ringtone, you got screwed.

It's just that Sprint blocks the ability of your cellphone to have mp3 ringtunes so you have to buy it from them..

Depending on your cellphone, I can help you out with some programs that hide your file name.

i have a rumor by LG... i can put the whole songs on my card and listen to them as MP3, I just can't assign them as ringers

seems hizzle has a clue, beyond that my only suggestion could be that the file size matters. maybe no more than X bytes or X seconds.

Nah, here in North America, they block cellphones so some of their functions are not availble. You can ask your provider why doesn't it work, he'll tell you a bullshit story and tell you that you can "download them directly on your phone by going on our wireless store!".

You can also unblock your cellphone (as if it came without a contract), but it's really underground and it costs about 100-200$.

I'm not sure about LGs, but I'll try to do something... I'm usualy able to do everything with Sony Ericssons.

When you buy a SE you get it with SE software and there's no way they can block anything on it except simlock which requires usb cable or 5$ to unlock

I could only think of Vodafone that puts their own software on each phone but fortunately enough they don't fuck with phones in Poland.

The other thing is that I couldn't set mp3 as a ringtone on my friend's Samsung but that's because it only allowed few second ringtone and it had to be midi or wav.

the vodafone model is actually very much used in the world's larger countries.

I live in a country where all mobile providers are Polish (except Orange which bought out one of our operators) and they don't install any software on their phones.

We were lucky enough to have our own gsm networks before Vodafone and such expanded. Once I bought few motorolas v1050 in Italy (because they were really, really cheap compared to mobile prices here) and their vodafone menus sucked so much that it was unbelievable.
