Candyman 187 - Fueled With Rage
Just recently, controversial rapper, and hip hop's newest bad boy Candyman 187 was reaping the consequences of his 'thug life' style. As numerous reports of the rapper having been 'shot' or 'shot at' multiple times were coming in, things seemed to be taking a turn for the worst.
Tupac Shakur's 'little brother' seems to have adapted his mentor's unstable and unpredictable personality.
With very little details available of the incident, local law enforcement asked witnessess to step forward, as both sides seemed to have employed a tight lipped, "no comment" policy.
It is known that the incident took place outside a venue in Southern California. An altercation started between the rapper and four reputed gang members, resulting in a stampede of Candyman 187 and his entourage brutally assaulting the four men. As most of us watched in horror, the vicous attack brought the four men to the ground, at which point the rapper and his entourage were seen repeatedly kicking the heads and bodies of the four men. When security finally intervened and broke the fight apart, a very excited and enraged Candyman was barely being subdued by his own entourage. Soon as we all thought it was over, the rapper ran up to one of the photographer's for the venue, screaming:
"Motherf***er you find this entertaining! You taking pictures? you b***h a** snitch a** ni**a!"
Before anybody had a chance to react to the rapper's madness, he grabbed the camera out of the gentleman's hand and pelted it on the ground. Needless to say the camera was left in pieces. At this point both parties were told to leave the venue grounds or else enforcement would be called to the scene. As the rapper was walking of the premisis, his complete disregard for authority was very evident, especially from his inflammatory statements towards the security and other law enforcement.
Less than 10 minutes had passed before what sounded like lightning striking the ground was heard around the area. Even though nobody was arrested or even detained for the shots being fired, gossip and rumors have been flying of who it may have been and why it may have occured. I for one am not pointing any fingers as NO connection has been made to the rapper or the other members of his entourage that were there. NO arrests have been made related to the gun shots. But I am blaming the rapper for not being responsible. Any public figure, no matter how big or small in status, has a responsibility to us. Instigating a situation that may get the public in harms way is very selfish and immature.
This and other string of recent outbursts by Candyman 187 don't come as a surprise to most, the outspoken and venom tongued rapper continues to contradict himself. From him almost insighting a riot at the Coral Room in New York City to him being banned from Club Diva in Washington D.C. for assaulting an audience member and threatening as well as spitting at security, to his lashing out at Amaru Entertainment for their altering of a song that him and friend Shock G of Digital Underground had done ('And 2morrow', they are both still credited on the album insert) for Tupac Shakur's "The Rose Volume 2".
In an industry that is ruled by the "Danger for Dollars" policy, Candyman 187 is nearing the head of the pack. Rumors have been circulating that the highly publicised unsigned rapper is getting ready to accept a huge deal from a power house label. This brings up the question of what the rapper's impact, if any, on hip hop is going to be? Negtive? Positive? or both? The rage that drives this young man leaves most speechless. His defiance and ego may very well be his downfall.
As a true journalist i would be wrong to not focus on the positive aspects of the rappers life, though few, he does have some. For one, he is definitely very lyrically gifted. His words are powerful, and will grab the supporters and haters alike. One of the few truly educated rappers out there, he is very well spoken, socialy concious and revolutionary.
Fallen Outlaw, Kadafi and Tupac Shakur's, his mentor and older brother, influence and teachings are very prevalent throughout his music.
It seems that even with his contradictory and suicidal thug life style, he has somehow managed to earn the respect of some in the industry, including veteran rap group Digital Underground, who he tours with time to time. From showing his support to Tookie Williams, to the single mothers and to all the P-O-W's/Political Prisoners (as he calls them) Dr. Mutulu Shakur, Sekou Odinga, and all the others. Fueled with rage yet full of love, he can best be described in his own words "I am doing what I know best, being myself".
Curiosity killed the cat, will contradiction destroy the rapper?
